Description

Resident Engineer | Transportation & Public Works

Own Your Future at Psomas
Join a 100% employee-owned firm built for long-term thinking, shared success, and meaningful impact.

Psomas is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to join our Seattle-based Construction Services Team and support the successful delivery of public works infrastructure projects throughout the Puget Sound region. Working as an owner's representative, you will help keep projects aligned, compliant, safely constructed, and moving forward through strong field oversight, clear communication, and practical problem-solving. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on the communities we serve while contributing to a growing construction services practice.

Why Psomas

  • Shared Success: An ownership culture that rewards long-term thinking and doing what's right.
  • Retirement Benefits: Company-funded ESOP + 401(k) with immediate match.
  • Hybrid Flexibility: 3/2 hybrid schedule when project needs allow.
  • Career Growth: Clear pathways, coaching, and leadership development.
  • People-First Culture: Collaborative teams that invest in your development.
  • Meaningful Work: Community-impact projects plus ways to give back.

What You'll Do

As our Resident Engineer, you will manage day-to-day field activities, contract administration, project documentation, and stakeholder coordination for public works infrastructure projects in the Seattle area. Regular project-site presence is required, so candidates must live locally or be able to commute to sites across the region.

  • Support Successful Project Starts: Provide pre-construction services including bid-ability/constructability reviews, pre-construction meetings, and bidding services.
  • Construction Administration & Contract Documentation: Support contract administration by reviewing contractor schedules, respond to claims, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and related project records.
  • Construction Oversight & Owner Representation: Monitor field activities and contractor performance for compliance with approved plans, specifications, budget, schedule, safety expectations, and quality standards.
  • Keep People Connected: Coordinate with clients, owners, contractors, design teams, inspectors, subconsultants, utilities, and agencies while leading project meetings.
  • Solve Field Challenges: Address field issues, potential change orders, schedule impacts, and project risks with a fair, practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Guide Field Teams: Coordinate inspectors, materials testing resources, subconsultants, and field staff to support accurate documentation and successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience supporting construction management, resident engineering, inspection, or owner's representative services on transportation, public works, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Specifications, WSDOT Construction Manual, ADA requirements, Local Agency Guidelines (LAG), and federally funded transportation projects.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to commute to the office, project sites, and job trailers as needed.
  • Ability to work on active construction sites, including walking on uneven terrain, working outdoors in varying weather, wearing required safety equipment, and following safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Washington Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) designation.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting transportation, roadway, bridge, or public works infrastructure projects.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $105,000-$125,000/annual (commensurate with experience). Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for a Senior Resident Engineer position with compensation up to $145,000/year.
  • Vehicle Benefit: Auto allowance or company-provided vehicle.
  • Incentives: Discretionary bonus and recognition programs.
  • Time Off: 3 weeks PTO plus 8 paid holidays.
  • Total Rewards: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family, along with employee ownership and retirement benefits.
