Senior Field Service Engineer/Technician – Advanced Technical Systems

 Location: Boulder, CO
Schedule: Hybrid / Field-Based
Travel: Extensive domestic travel with occasional international travel
Pay: $68,000–$88,200/year, depending on experience and qualifications

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Field Service Engineer to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support advanced technical equipment used in highly engineered environments.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving complex equipment issues, working directly with customers, and partnering with Engineering and Manufacturing teams.

You will support equipment in the field and remotely, lead technical troubleshooting, complete system installations and commissioning, and help improve service processes and equipment performance over time.

Experience with semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, electromechanical systems, vacuum systems, laboratory equipment, industrial automation, or other complex technical systems can transfer well into this role.

What You’ll Do

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance at customer sites.
• Install, configure, and commission advanced technical equipment.
• Complete system testing and final customer acceptance procedures.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, and system-level issues.
• Provide remote technical support by phone and email.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex or recurring equipment problems.
• Perform root cause analysis and coordinate corrective actions.
• Communicate clearly with customers throughout service calls, installations, and repairs.
• Complete service reports, work orders, maintenance records, and technical documentation.
• Provide technical training to customers, partners, and internal employees.
• Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to resolve technical issues.
• Share field feedback that can improve product reliability, serviceability, and future designs.
• Help create and improve service procedures, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance documentation.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• An advanced degree or equivalent hands-on technical experience may also qualify.
• Experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing complex equipment.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read technical documentation, schematics, procedures, and equipment specifications.
• Comfortable troubleshooting equipment independently at customer locations.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to take a technical problem from initial diagnosis through resolution.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid field service role that includes work in office, manufacturing, laboratory, and customer-site environments.

The position requires extensive domestic travel and occasional international travel. You should be comfortable working independently at customer locations and adapting to different technical environments.

The role may also require:

• Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching
• Working around technical equipment
• Lifting equipment weighing approximately 40–80 pounds
• Team lifting or mechanical assistance for heavier equipment
• Working in cleanrooms, laboratories, controlled environments, or confined spaces

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position in Boulder, Colorado is $68,000–$88,200 per year, depending on experience, technical skills, education, and qualifications.
