ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic, and analytical candidate for the position of Sr. Director, Project Valuation and Analysis. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. This role reports to the Executive Vice President, Capital Markets & M&A. 

The Sr. Director, Project Valuation and Analysis at Avantus supports the financial evaluation, modeling, and strategic analytics underlying the development, acquisition, and financing of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This role is responsible for building and maintaining valuation frameworks, supporting investment decisions, and providing analytical insights across the project lifecycle, from early-stage development through financing, construction, and operations. This role also carries significant FP&A collaboration, supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting needs across the valuation and analytics function.

The successful candidate will partner closely with development, finance, commercial, and leadership teams to evaluate project economics, support portfolio value optimization, and contribute to capital allocation decisions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Lead and support development and oversight of detailed financial models for utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
• Evaluate project economics including revenue modeling, cost assumptions, tax incentives, and financing structures.
• Conduct discounted cash flow (DCF), IRR, and NPV analysis to support investment decisions.
• Develop sensitivity analyses and scenario modeling for power price forecasts, storage dispatch, curtailment, and policy changes.
• Ensure modeling incorporates key incentives such as Investment Tax Credit (ITC), Production Tax Credit (PTC), and other federal/state incentives.
• Build portfolio-level analytics to support capital allocation and strategic planning.
• Evaluate development pipeline performance and identify value optimization opportunities.
• Support decisions on project acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.
• Analyze merchant exposure, contract structures, and storage arbitrage strategies.
• Partner with Development, Origination, Engineering, and Commercial teams to evaluate project viability.
• Provide valuation support for offtake negotiations, including PPAs and capacity agreements.
• Support tax equity, debt financing, and investor diligence processes.
• Prepare investment memos and presentations for executive leadership and investment committees.
• Monitor power market dynamics, capacity markets, and storage revenue streams.
• Evaluate impacts of regulatory and policy changes on project economics.
• Integrate third-party market forecasts and internal analytics into valuation frameworks.
• Build and lead a high-performing valuation and analytics team.
• Establish best practices for financial modeling, data governance, and analytical tools.
• Mentor analysts and managers supporting project valuation efforts.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• 8-10+ years of experience in renewable energy finance, infrastructure investing, project development, or energy analytics.
• Significant experience modeling utility-scale renewable energy, or solar and/or BESS projects.
• Strong knowledge of renewable energy incentives, project finance, and power markets.
• Experience supporting project acquisitions, financings, or investment committee decisions.
• Advanced financial modeling (Excel or equivalent).
• Experience with energy market analytics tools or datasets.
• Strong understanding of power price forecasting, storage dispatch modeling, and revenue stacking.
• Ability to synthesize complex analytics into clear executive insights.

 

NICE TO HAVES

• FP&A experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, preferably within an energy or infrastructure setting, is a plus.
