Description

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), the nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, supports evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority. ACS CAN provides volunteers with the opportunity to fight cancer with the training and tools they need to make their voices heard. For more information, visit www.fightcancer.org.

The Tobacco Project initiative, launched by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), aims to decrease disparities related to tobacco used among the Hispanic/Latino community residents in Vacaville in Solano County.  The program offers students the change to acquire valuable skills and contribute to ACS CAN’s mission. The interns will have a hybrid work schedule, with some in-person work and participation in weekend events and activities.

Internship Activities:

The internship requires a 10-weeks commitment and pays $20 - $22 per hour for up to 180 hours. During this time, interns will have assigned responsibilities that may include but are not limited to, the following*

*Note: these activities will be conducted in partnership and with support from ACS CAN staff and may be conducted virtually or in-person.

  • Assisting with the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers for outreach events and activities. Ensure that the volunteers are well-equipped and informed to represent ACS CAN effectively.
  • Assisting and managing social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram to enhance public health communication and increase engagement with the community on tobacco-related matters. This includes scheduling posts to reach a broader audience and produce short videos that highlight the project efforts.
  • Participating in workshops, training sessions, and ACS CAN presentations to inform and educate residents, stakeholders, and non-traditional partners within the Vacaville and Solano County area.
  • Participating in the planning and execution of advocacy and awareness campaign that focuses on the project cause.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, policymakers, and Hispanic/Latino residents to advance a more equitable and healthier lifestyle in Vacaville and Solano County.
