SiPhox Health is building a first-of-its-kind consumer diagnostics platform that brings complex biochemical analyses into the home through integrated silicon photonics, microfluidics, embedded systems, and advanced assay development. Our chip-based solution integrates state-of-the-art biochemistry, photonics, electronics, and microfluidics to deliver the power of large laboratory instruments in a portable device.

The role

You will be hands on designing and building the first of its kind home testing system. This person will directly own key parts of the system, with a wide scope to have an impact. You will work closely with the production teams to create systems that are elegant to use, but also manufacturable at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical designs for defined subsystems of medical and diagnostic devices, ensuring functionality, reliability, and manufacturability
• Design and review parts and assemblies optimized for high-volume injection molding and automated assembly methods
• Apply rapid prototyping techniques to accelerate product development and iteration, with minimal guidance
• Plan and execute engineering tests to validate designs and improve performance
• Create and review detailed design specifications, including 3D and 2D MCAD models following ASME Y14.5 or ISO 8015 standards
• Closely collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing engineers and scientists, often owning the mechanical side of complex technical challenges
• Lead root cause analysis and drive design or process changes to enhance product quality and performance
• Own system design, system and sub-system requirements and verification plans for your subsystems
• Mentor Mechanical Design Engineers on MCAD practices, DFM/DFA, and design-verification approach
• Review other engineers' designs and drawings for manufacturability and compliance with design standards
• Take a leading role in supplier and vendor conversations for the components/subsystems you own

What we’re looking for

• Deep knowledge of the challenges of scaling products from prototype to high volume production
• Real experience working with pilot and full volume production systems, implementing quality controls and maximizing the product’s quality and yield
• Excellent knowledge of injection molding design, including tolerance studies
• Excellent knowledge of mechanical assembly techniques, including ultrasonic welding, laser welding, clip design and adhesives
• Creative problem solver
• Expert MCAD user

Nice to have

• Demonstrated ability to design mechanical mechanisms, from concepting through to volume production
• Experience in medical devices, or with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, or other design controls process
• Experience working at a manufacturing site, as a process, test or tool engineer
• Optics, photonics, fluidics, or microfluidics exposure
• Experience in SolidWorks and OnShape

Employment Details

Department: Product Engineering

Work location: Burlington, MA (on-site), with some travel to manufacturing sites in the US, Europe and Asia. Trips typically for 1-2 weeks in duration as required.

Salary Range: $100,000 – $200,000 (depending on experience)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to do dexterous tasks with hands, e.g. manual assembly with small tools, soldering
• This role involves physical activity and routine handling of chemicals. Candidates must adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and be comfortable using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
