Job Summary:
We are looking for a hands-on and detail-oriented Accountant to support the finance operations of our Malaysia and Singapore entities.The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing management reports, managing payroll, supporting month-end and year-end closing activities, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The role will work closely with the Financial Controller and provide exposure to a broad range of accounting, tax, payroll, and finance activities within a growing business.
Job Description:
Role Responsibilities
Management Reporting
- Record and maintain accurate accounting transactions, including invoices, payments, journals, payroll, and employee expense claims.
- Manage monthly payroll processing, including payroll verification, statutory deductions, employee claims, and timely submission/payment to the relevant authorities.
- Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate banking records.
- Review and reconcile intercompany transactions and support timely billing and collection activities.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reports.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding reconciling items on a timely basis.
- Process foreign currency revaluations and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support variance analysis and preparation of financial performance commentary.
- Support the Financial Controller in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and financial analysis.
- Ensure compliance with MFRS/IFRS and company accounting policies.
Compliance, Tax & Controls
- Prepare and submit indirect tax returns, including SST and GST returns where applicable.
- Liaise with external tax agents on annual corporate tax filings, tax estimates, and tax compliance matters.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation required for statutory reporting and tax submissions.
- Assist with year-end audits and provide information required by auditors.
- Maintain proper documentation and ensure compliance with internal control requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Operational Finance Support
- Support day-to-day finance operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, employee expenses, and intercompany transactions.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information.
- Support ERP and finance system improvements (NetSuite experience is an advantage).
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Assist the Financial Controller with ad hoc finance projects and business initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a professional accounting qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting or audit experience. Candidates from audit firms seeking to transition into a commercial accounting role are encouraged to apply.
- Experience in month-end closing, account reconciliations, and management reporting.
- Experience in payroll processing and statutory compliance is preferred.
- Experience in SST/GST reporting and working with external tax agents is preferred.
- Experience with foreign currency transactions is an advantage.
- Experience in project accounting and revenue recognition is an advantage.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CA, or equivalent are an added advantage.
Technical Skills
- Good understanding of accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with accounting or ERP systems; NetSuite experience is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare accurate financial reports and reconciliations.
