As a leading water technology company with 23,000 employees operating in over 150 countries, Xylem is at the forefront of addressing the world's most critical water challenges. We invite passionate individuals to join our team, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations through innovative and sustainable solutions.

Essential Duties / Principal Responsibilities

Strategy & Long-Range Planning

  • Set, evolve, and steward the MCS strategic agenda, ensuring alignment with Xylem’s enterprise strategy, Long-Range Plan (LRP), and sustainability commitments.
  • Lead the end-to-end strategic planning process for MCS, including annual and multi-year planning, scenario development, and translation of strategy into measurable priorities and outcomes.
  • Define and maintain consistent strategic frameworks, KPIs, and leading indicators to assess progress against strategic objectives and inform leadership decisions.
  • Support executive-level strategy reviews, operating reviews, and board-adjacent discussions with clear, data-driven insights and recommendations.

Portfolio, Growth, and Value Creation

  • Lead portfolio strategy and optimization, including evaluation of market segments, adjacencies, technology platforms, and investment priorities.
  • Assess and prioritize organic growth opportunities, including pricing and value creation initiatives, capability development, innovation focus areas, and operating model evolution.
  • Partner with Finance and business leaders to ensure capital allocation and resource decisions align with strategic priorities and value creation goals.

Market & Competitive Intelligence

  • Establish a centralized MCS approach to market and competitive intelligence, integrating internal and external insights.
  • Continuously monitor and assess market trends, customer needs, competitive dynamics, regulatory developments, and technology disruptions (including digital, sensing, analytics, software-enabled solutions, and IoT).
  • Translate insights into actionable strategy inputs and disseminate them effectively across MCS leadership and teams.

Strategic Initiatives & Execution

  • Identify, prioritize, and govern enterprise-scale strategic initiatives across MCS, ensuring alignment with strategy, clear ownership, and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide guidance, tools, and oversight for initiative management, including progress tracking, issue escalation, and benefits realization.
  • Drive disciplined execution by embedding strategy into management routines, performance reviews, and leadership accountability.

Leadership & Influence

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the MCS leadership team, influencing decisions through rigorous analysis, sound judgment, and compelling storytelling.
  • Build and lead a high-performing strategy team, fostering analytical rigor, collaboration, and an enterprise mindset.
  • Act as a bridge between MCS and enterprise functions (Strategy, Finance, Technology, Sustainability, Legal) to ensure alignment and effective execution.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA or graduate degree in engineering, computer science, economics, or a related field).
  • Significant experience in corporate or business unit strategy, ideally within industrial technology, digital solutions, infrastructure, utilities, or adjacent sectors.
  • Proven ability to structure and solve highly ambiguous, complex business problems, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative inputs into executive-ready recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of the water sector or closely related industries, with exposure to digital technologies, sensing, analytics, software-enabled offerings, and IoT.
  • Experience leading strategic planning processes, portfolio reviews, and enterprise-scale initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across functions, geographies, and cultures in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey complex concepts to senior leadership and board-adjacent audiences.
  • Passion for Xylem’s mission and advancing sustainable water solutions globally.
  • Strong financial acumen, including the ability to assess business performance, evaluate investment and capital allocation decisions, and translate strategic choices into value creation outcomes.
  • Strong experience in developing and driving digital and software-enabled aftermarket strategy, including commercial pull-through, recurring revenue models, and lifecycle value creation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in management consulting, enterprise strategy, or corporate strategy roles with exposure to high-stakes, time-sensitive strategic work.
  • Experience partnering with Corporate Development, Finance, and Legal on inorganic growth from a strategy perspective (e.g., target themes, strategic rationale, portfolio fit), without owning deal execution.
  • Career experience that reflects breadth across functions, geographies, or sectors, enabling strong enterprise-level judgment and adaptability.
