San Bernardino County is currently accepting applications for Law and Justice Office Assistants who perform clerical, fiscal and/or other support functions within the Sheriff’s Department, Probation Department, or Office of the District Attorney.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing general information to the public via phone or in-person.
  • Collecting, entering, and processing information.
  • Preparing and maintaining files, forms, documents, and records systems.
  • Utilizing and entering information into a variety of specialized computer systems such as CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems), CLETS (California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System), JIMS (Jail Information Management System), CNI (Central Names Index).
  • Verifying, auditing, classifying, processing, tracking, posting and reconciling payroll, accounts payable, travel claims, billings and payments, reimbursements, accounts receivable, public assistance grants and trust accounts.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 

Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Some departments may require an additional background screening, which includes a credit check.

Shift: Some positions require availability to work all shifts; incumbents may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings, and may be required to assist after normal duty hours in emergency situations. Shift differentials and overtime compensation are available. Indicate shift availability on the supplemental questionnaire.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Must meet ONE of the following options:


Option 1: 

Six (6) months of full-time clerical experience in an office environment. Duties must include a variety of office tasks including public contact, providing customers with information regarding policies and procedures, daily computer use, word processing, routine fiscal tasks, and answering phones. 
Option 2:
Current experience as an Employee/PSE/WEX/Explorer/Intern/Volunteer in the Sheriff’s, Probation, or Office of the District Attorney Department with San Bernardino County.

Option 3: 

A completed Associates degree or equivalent (60 semester or 90 quarter units) coursework from an accredited college/university. This information must be clearly indicated in the Education section of the application. If a degree has not been conferred, transcripts must be attached to your application.
Option 4:
Successful completion of the Entry-Level Workplace Certificate issued by San Bernardino County SBC Path builder program. 
The certificate must be attached to your application for consideration.

Note: Job duties must be clearly detailed on the Application. Retail sales, Cashier, and food service experience are not considered qualifying.  

Bilingual Skills (Spanish/English) are highly desirable and should be noted on the application. Candidates who wish to be considered for bilingual (Spanish/English) positions must indicate bilingual skills on the application. Bilingual compensation may be available; additional testing may be required.

Excellent Computer Skills are also highly desirable and should be noted in the supplemental questionnaire.

BilingualA separate written examination to evaluate Spanish Bilingual Skills may be administered by the hiring department after hire.
