Project Title:  Continuous Improvement for Assembly Yield Enhancement through Foreign Material (FM) Reduction

Description :

This internship project focuses on yield improvement in the assembly production line through systematic Foreign Material (FM) reduction. The intern will support the identification and elimination of FM contamination sources within the component assembly cleanroom, with the objective of reducing assembly yield loss from ~0.4% to below 0.3%. The project provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing process control, yield management, failure analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration in a high‑volume semiconductor assembly environment.

Scope:

• Component assembly cleanroom production line
• Foreign Material (FM) source identification and tracking
• Yield loss monitoring and data analysis related to FM defects
• Support of qualification builds and engineering evaluations

Supporting Team:

• Assembly Process Engineers
• Production / PFA / NPM / Test & Reliability Lab teams (as required for lot follow‑up)

Deliverables:

• Assist engineers in managing engineering evaluation and qualification builds, including coordination of resources, machines, and material readiness
• Consolidate and maintain process buy‑off and qualification data
• Perform simple measurements and optical visual inspections as per engineering request
• Support Defect Failure Analysis (EFA) and Physical Failure Analysis (PFA) submissions, including documentation and data preparation
• Track and summarize findings related to FM sources and yield impact

Stretch Goals:

• Propose FM reduction opportunities based on data analysis and observations
• Develop simple trend charts or summaries to highlight yield improvement progress
• Gain exposure to root cause analysis (RCA) techniques used in manufacturing environments

Requirements:

• Undergraduate student with background in Engineering or Science disciplines, such as:
  • Mechanical / Electrical / Manufacturing Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Computer Engineering / Computer Science
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes is an advantage
• Willingness to work in a cleanroom environment
• Good communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams
• Basic data handling skills (Excel, charts, tables)
