Description -
What a College Intern - Procurement/Sourcing Engineer (Category Intelligence) does at HP:
- Support and analyze supplier capability assessments, technical evaluations, qualification activities, and sourcing recommendations.
- Conduct category and market research on supplier landscapes, technology trends, raw-material cost drivers, and supply risks.
- Develop should-cost models based on materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, and logistics.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization, value engineering, alternative materials, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with procurement, engineering, quality, and supplier teams to address sourcing and quality challenges.
Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
- Able to commit to a 5 to 6-month full-time internship starting in January 2027.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and structured-thinking skills.
- Able to work independently and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Hands-on experience with AI and LLM technologies, preferably Microsoft Copilot Studio.
- Understanding of RAG, prompt design, knowledge management, and AI-agent workflows.
- Basic programming, data architecture, and data preparation knowledge.
- Experience with analytics and visualization tools such as Power BI and Excel.
- AI architecture, data engineering, procurement, strategic sourcing, supplier management, quality engineering, or category intelligence experience.
- Ability to apply engineering knowledge to materials, specifications, manufacturing processes, supplier capabilities, cost, and quality evaluation.
- Ability to translate technical, supplier, cost, and quality data into clear, actionable sourcing recommendations.
- Understanding of should-cost modelling, supplier qualification, market analysis, and sourcing decision-making.
- Familiarity with quality tools such as 5 Whys, Pareto analysis, 8D, or FMEA.
- Knowledge of materials and components used in thermal inkjet cartridges is an added advantage.
