The Advanced Practice Clinician (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the acute care hospital setting serves as a key member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role primarily supports inpatient cardiology, focusing on elective procedures performed in the Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs. There may also be opportunities to participate in rounding on the General Cardiology Consult Service. The position offers a consistent schedule of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with no nights, weekends, or holidays required.Job Description
The Division of Cardiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and clinically skilled Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our growing Interventional Cardiology team. This unique position offers the opportunity to work directly alongside nationally recognized interventional cardiologists in a high-volume, tertiary-care cardiac catheterization laboratory while participating in the comprehensive care of patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures.

Position Summary
The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will function as an integral member of the Interventional Cardiology team, providing procedural assistance during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures while also participating in the pre-procedural evaluation, inpatient management, and post-procedural care of cardiovascular patients.
The successful candidate will work closely with attending physicians, fellows, nursing staff, and cath lab personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care throughout the continuum of the interventional cardiovascular experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
- Assist interventional cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Participate alongside physicians in coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), peripheral vascular interventions, and other advanced catheter-based therapies.
- Assist with vascular access management and procedural workflow.
- Support procedural documentation and communication with multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in patient monitoring and assessment during procedures.
- Facilitate efficient patient throughput and procedural coordination.
Pre-Procedural Patient Care
- Conduct focused cardiovascular assessments and histories.
- Review diagnostic studies, laboratory data, and imaging.
- Assist with procedural planning and patient preparation.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, risks, benefits, and expectations.
- Coordinate care with referring physicians and consulting services.
Post-Procedural Management
- Evaluate patients following diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Manage vascular access sites and post-procedural recovery.
- Monitor for complications and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up care.
- Provide patient and family education regarding medications, activity restrictions, and ongoing cardiovascular management.
Clinical Collaboration
- Work closely with attending physicians, fellows, nurses, technologists, and ancillary staff.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical protocol development.
- Contribute to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.
- Support academic and educational activities within the Division of Cardiology.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current NCCPA certification or AGACNP-BC certification.
- Acute Care certification if NP
- Eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure.
- DEA certification (or ability to obtain).
- BLS and ACLS certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, team-based environment.

- Emergency Medicine
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Vascular Medicine
- Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory settings
- Experience managing complex cardiovascular patients.
- Familiarity with invasive cardiovascular procedures and post-procedural care.
