Description
Director of Membership
Hiring Range: $66,550 - $76,000
On-site in Lake Worth, FL
Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida has a fantastic opportunity available for a Director of Membership!
The Director of Membership leads the Council's strategy for growing and retaining membership across Southeast Florida. This role is responsible for understanding where our greatest opportunities exist, developing strategies to reach and convert prospective members, strengthening troop formation and placement, and improving renewal and retention throughout the membership lifecycle.
As our Director of Membership, you will use data, community insights, and membership trends to identify priority markets, set goals, develop recruitment and retention strategies, and evaluate what is working. You will help shape how GSSEF attracts girls and adult members, converts interest into membership, creates sustainable troop opportunities, and keeps members engaged year after year.
Reporting to the Vice President of Mission Design, you will serve as the Council's functional leader and subject-matter expert for membership growth, recruitment, conversion, troop formation, renewal, and retention.
You will work closely with Mission Delivery to turn membership priorities into actionable initiatives, providing the strategy, goals, target audiences, measures of success, and functional direction needed for effective execution. You will also collaborate across departments to identify and remove barriers throughout the member journey, from initial interest and registration through placement, participation, renewal, and retention.
On any given day, you may be:
- Analyzing membership trends and identifying communities, schools, or geographic areas with growth potential
- Developing Council-wide recruitment, conversion, renewal, and retention strategies
- Designing membership campaigns in partnership with Marketing, and defining target audiences, goals, timelines, and measures of success
- Evaluating the membership pipeline to identify where prospective members are getting stuck or disengaging
- Building community partnerships that create new pathways to membership
- Using CRM, pipeline, and performance data to recommend changes in strategy
- Establishing and monitoring Service Unit membership goals
- Working across departments to improve the overall experience for our members
Who are we seeking?
- Someone with strong knowledge of membership development, recruitment, customer acquisition, retention, and relationship-management strategies.
- A strategic thinker who can translate organizational goals and market opportunities into clear membership priorities, initiatives, and measurable outcomes.
- Someone who understands the relationship between recruitment, conversion, member experience, engagement, renewal, and retention.
- A data-driven leader who can interpret membership trends, pipeline data, performance indicators, and operational information and turn those insights into action.
- A strong problem solver that can collaborate with others to develop practical solutions.
- An experienced leader who can provide functional direction, influence outcomes, and drive execution across teams without direct supervisory authority.
- Strong project-management and organizational skills, including the ability to establish priorities, define outcomes, manage multiple initiatives, and evaluate results.
- A relationship builder who can develop productive partnerships with schools, community organizations, volunteers, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Strong judgment, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Experience with customer relationship management systems and the effective use of technology and data to support growth and retention. Salesforce or similar CRM experience is strongly preferred.
What else will you need?
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in membership development, recruitment, sales, customer acquisition, nonprofit growth, or a related field.
- Experience working in a nonprofit, membership-based, youth-serving, or mission-driven organization is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a goal-oriented, outcome-driven recruitment, sales, membership growth, or comparable environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategies tied to measurable recruitment, growth, conversion, retention, or customer/member outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience using data, performance measures, and CRM or pipeline information to evaluate results and inform strategy.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives or teams is strongly preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or French is preferred.
- Ability to work in person at our Lake Worth Administrative Headquarters and work additional hours, including evenings and weekends, as required to meet business needs.
- Access to reliable transportation and a valid Florida driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and eligibility for coverage under applicable Council insurance.
