The Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of 

PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE MANAGER

First interviews will take place beginning week of November 16, 2026.

 Job Offers for selected candidates will be made beginning week of November 23, 2026.


The starting salary for this position will be based on the candidate’s qualifications at time of appointment.

Future Salary Increases:
  ** June 2027 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3% Across-the- Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment)

As a Public Health Nurse Manager for the County of San Diego, you will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the overall services and activities for our Polinski Children’s Center Clinic and providing support to the operations of a public health center.  Duties include developing and directing the delivery of services at our 24/7 Polinski Children’s Center as this facility operates 365 days a year.  This position will also at times, help support the operations of one of six Public Health Centers within San Diego County.

The current opening is with our Public Health Centers and Polinski Children’s Center Clinic however the eligible list from this recruitment may be used for other vacancies as they occur.

Hiring Timeline and Dates 
 
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.
  1. Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. 
  2. Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  3. Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Valid California Registered Nurse License; AND,
  2. Valid Public Health Nurse Certificate from the California State Board of Registered Nursing; AND,
  3. A bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency; AND,
  4. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the public health nursing field. At least two (2) years of experience must have included supervising or leading and assisting the supervision of lower-level staff at the level of a Senior Public Health Nurse in the County of San Diego or equivalent, in an official public health agency, or similar agency or organization providing a generalized public health nursing program; OR, experience in managing the overall activities of a public health program or clinical services.
 
Note: A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in nursing or health related field can substitute for one (1) year of registered nursing experience and cannot be applied to the required two (2) years of supervision/management.

Conditions of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
 

Evaluation

The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based upon scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
