Overview
The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests and team members. This position leads housekeeping staff, maintains quality standards, manages labor and departmental expenses, and works closely with other hotel departments to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Department Leadership
- Supervise and support all housekeeping team members, including Room Attendants, House Attendants, Public Area Attendants, Laundry Attendants, and Housekeeping Supervisors (if applicable).
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, and develop housekeeping team members.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
- Foster a positive, productive, and team-oriented work environment.
Operations Management
- Manage the daily housekeeping operation to ensure guest rooms, public areas, offices, meeting spaces, and back-of-house areas meet hotel cleanliness standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public spaces to ensure quality and consistency.
- Coordinate room status updates with the Front Office team to maximize room availability and guest satisfaction.
- Ensure all housekeeping assignments are completed efficiently and according to established productivity standards.
- Respond promptly to guest requests, concerns, and service recovery situations.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage departmental schedules based on occupancy and business demands.
- Monitor labor costs and productivity to ensure efficient staffing levels.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of linens, guest supplies, cleaning products, and equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all hotel policies, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of OSHA standards, workplace safety requirements, and proper chemical handling procedures.
- Conduct regular safety training and department meetings.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of housekeeping equipment and chemicals.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records related to staffing, payroll, inventory, inspections, and departmental performance.
- Participate in management meetings and contribute to hotel operational planning.
Qualifications

- Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit.
- Associate's degree or hospitality-related education preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of housekeeping leadership experience in a hotel environment.
- Previous supervisory or management experience required.
- Experience in a full-service hotel environment preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 30 pounds regularly.
- Ability to inspect guest rooms and public spaces throughout the property.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as business needs require.
