Description
Want to help us help others? We’re hiring!
GoFundMe is the world’s most powerful community for good, dedicated to helping people help each other. By uniting individuals and nonprofits in one place, GoFundMe makes it easy and safe for people to ask for help and support causes—for themselves and each other. Together, our community has raised more than $40 billion since 2010.
Join us! We’re searching for a highly skilled and experienced Director of Product Design to lead design for GoFundMe’s Enterprise Software suite for non-profit organizations. In this role, you will define the experience vision that empowers nonprofits to build meaningful connections with their supporters through innovative tools and features. We believe that in a world of AI-generated everything, craft, visual design, and systems are what set great products apart.
Candidates considered for this role will be located in one of the following locations: San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego
The Job
- Own design quality for your area, and set the bar at world-class. Run structured audits of end-to-end experiences against our quality rubric, and actively work down a design debt backlog. Misses are rare, and you already know about them.
- Stay hands-on with the highest-stakes work. Give direct, specific critique, and jump in yourself when that’s the fastest path to quality.
- Defend visual craft and taste in an AI era. Anyone can now generate a plausible screen. You set the standard for what is distinctive, polished, coherent, and on-brand, and you make it visible in the work.
- Champion our design system, Heart. Own adoption across your teams (company target: 75%), and make sure your teams contribute back, not just consume.
- Make AI a repeatable advantage. Build workflows your teams can adopt at scale, and report real impact (time saved, quality held steady) to senior leadership. You catch it when speed comes at quality’s expense.
- Be a business leader alongside Product and Engineering. Help decide what gets built, sequenced, and resourced for the full roadmap, not just how it’s designed.
- Build and grow a team of designers and design managers who do their best work under your coaching, and contribute to how we define levels and expectations.
- Teach tribe partners what great design means at GoFundMe, so excellence becomes a shared push, not a design-only concern.
- Hire for craft. Lead sourcing and hiring that seeks excellence in visual and interaction design, systems thinking, and judgment.
- Collaborate with design leadership to evolve our long-term experience vision, design systems, and ways of working.
You
- 10+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio that shows exceptional visual, interaction, and systems craft.
- A demonstrated record of raising the quality bar across a team, not just your own work.
- Experience building, scaling, or driving adoption of a design system.
- Active, hands-on use of AI tools in your own practice, with a clear point of view on how they change design teams, and the judgment to keep quality high.
- Ability to build evidence-backed narratives that influence the roadmap and senior leadership
- Ability to attract top design talent through your work and thought leadership
- Ideally, deep experience with e-commerce platforms, site builders (e.g., Wix, Shopify), and SaaS admin tools.
- Experience working across both B2B and ideally B2C markets, with an understanding of the unique dynamics of each.
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders, executives, and customers, and present on stage at events.
- The ability to balance business objectives with user needs and team needs. You represent all sides of the business and know how to create the best outcomes for each.
- You can clearly articulate your design decisions, ideas, and vision.
- You are empathetic and have a user-centered approach to design.
