DESCRIPTION:
As an Controls Engineer at Frontier-Kemper, you will support the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of power distribution and control equipment for our OEM Division. You will also assist with the installation and troubleshooting of our equipment across our mining and heavy civil construction divisions.
This position is responsible for the analysis, engineering, design, and procurement of electrical equipment for hoists, vertical belts, and skip loading systems. The engineer will play an integral role in designing and programming our systems and, over time, in developing new products to meet client needs.
Responsibilities:
Serve as engineer on mid-size and large projects.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, working with a team of engineers and designers.
Design and implement control systems for electrically powered equipment, including hoists and vertical belts.
Design job site power distribution for tunnel boring machines, belt systems, and hoists.
Develop PLC programs and HMI applications.
Commission hoists, vertical belts, and skip loading systems on mine and heavy civil construction sites.
Work with vendors to specify and procure components.
Review designs for fit, function, and accuracy.
Ensure all designs meet customer requirements and internal standards.
Test and troubleshoot control systems at our on-site UL panel shop.
Travel intermittently to project and customer sites for system commissioning.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution required; advanced degree preferred.
Prior experience in electrical engineering is preferred.
Experience with PLC programming and HMI development is preferred
Experience developing hoist control systems and programs is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated project management, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, PowerFlex drives, ABB ACS880 drives, and EasyPower software is a plus. Training can be provided for the right candidate.
Additional experience with Autodesk Electrical, AutoCAD LT, Revit, document control systems, hydraulic systems, and the Microsoft Office Suite is beneficial.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed to support projects and operations.
