Role Overview

As Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial management of multiple wastewater projects. You will ensure financial performance is maximized while supporting successful project delivery from pre-construction and tendering through to final accounts. Working alongside Project Managers, operational teams, and client representatives, you will provide key commercial expertise, mitigate financial risk, and maximize project profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Commercial Management: Manage all commercial and financial aspects of multiple wastewater and utility infrastructure projects.

• Valuations & Final Accounts: Prepare detailed cost plans, applications for payment, valuations, and final accounts.

• Cost Control & Forecasting: Monitor project cash flow, track cost performance against budgets, and generate accurate monthly cost reports and financial forecasts.

• Variations & Change Management: Identify, price, negotiate, and agree upon contract variations and compensation events.

• Subcontractor Procurement & Management: Procure specialized subcontractors, administer subcontract agreements, assess monthly payment applications, and settle final accounts.

• Contract Administration: Ensure project execution complies fully with main contract terms and company governance procedures.

• Risk & Opportunity Management: Proactively identify commercial risks, recommend practical mitigation strategies, and capture value-engineering opportunities.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients, sub-consultants, suppliers, and internal operational teams.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

• Industry Experience: Proven background as a Quantity Surveyor within the water, wastewater, utilities, or civil engineering sectors.

• Contract Knowledge: Strong understanding of contract administration, specifically NEC contracts (NEC3 / NEC4).

• Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated success in managing project costs, budget control, and commercial negotiations from pre-construction to final account.

• Education: Degree, HNC, or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (preferred).

• Professional Accreditation: MRICS / RICS membership (or working towards chartership) is desirable.

• Skills: Excellent numerical accuracy, high attention to detail, strong contract negotiation abilities, and effective communication skills.

• Licensing & Eligibility: Full UK Driving Licence and permanent Right to Work in the UK.
