Description
The purpose of this role is to support All ConvaTec Operations around the Network by leading, advising, teaching and providing technical knowledge and expertise to operational teams on all manufacturing equipment and auxiliary system. This position will bring support to Global Engineering team on project development, project execution, continuous improvement which support the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), New Product Development (NPD), New Process Development and New Product Launches (NPL). Incumbent will foster an understanding of the client/customer needs and mission and support the integration of the technical expertise and strategic value of engineering in meeting these needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design of new tooling, machine parts and fixtures
- Modification of existing tooling, machine parts and fixtures
- Construction of tooling, machine parts and fixtures, using a CNC machine
- Tooling serialization
- Creation of drawings (machine parts, fixtures and tooling)
- Modification of drawings (machine parts, fixtures and tooling)
- Utilize technical expertise with problem solving skills to lead troubleshooting efforts on equipment and systems while maintaining compliance with all site and regulatory policies, procedures and regulations
- Manages contractors and suppliers to increase their service levels, reduce costs for the same service, and improve reliability. Ensures all machinery purchases and development deliver value added ROI and a competitive advantage to the business.
- Keep up to date with leading edge technologies and apply to existing processes, equipment and systems. Links
- business opportunities with the application of proprietary & innovative technologies in manufacturing processes. Leads / supports transfers R & D product/technology developments into manufacturing processes.
- Support the project management duties for all projects associated with improve, modify, upgrade and overhaul existing technology and new technology acquisition.
- Preparation of the plants to receive products and process from other ConvaTec plants and Original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
- Perform and support Equipment commissioning, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) aligned to the annual project plan and 3-5 years’ strategy plan.
- Support project documentation creation and approval of Change Requests, Process Validations (IQ, OQ, and PQ), and documentation change requests (CR) in support of all projects assigned.
- Design, build, plans, and implements new equipment and/or work stations (Automatic, Semiautomatic or Manual) to maximize efficiency, reduce operational cost and eliminate potential quality issues.
- Creation of unique and innovative solutions in the integration of new or improved processes, systems, prototypes, components, material selection, machinery, new products and/or equipment.
- Perform and coordinate Overhauls, rebuild and Upgrades to existing legacy manufacturing equipments all around the ConvaTec Network to support Annual Operating plan.
- Generates Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR’s) for projects assigned to Plant Engineering and Automation team aligned with the Annual Capital plan.
- Execute projects from developed plans with minimal supervision.
- Institutes and evaluates new procedures for improved safety, using regulatory guidelines and GMP’s.
- Ability to judge the technical complexity of a task/project and assign tasks as needed to complete the task/project.
- Must work independently and demonstrate leadership though commitment to communication, training, and work habits.
- Must demonstrate advanced technical competence in all aspects of specific field of expertise (electronic/electrical or mechanical engineering). Must be familiar with all work centers and manufacturing operations.
Skills & Experience:
- Candidate should have strong analytical skills with proven experience in project planning and project management, with excellent track record of product delivery.
- Candidate must have experience in the design, modification and building of mechanical parts
- Candidate must experience in the operation of CNC machine
- Candidate must have experience in handling mechanical design software
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of manufacturing organization, structure and operating culture, specifically in a highly regulated environment; experience in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with various types of automated processes, systems and equipment required, including (but not limited to) servo drives/motion control, electro-pneumatics, web conveyance, robotics and packaging.
- Project management experience, including capital project planning, scope development, implementation and validation is required. Knowledge of construction practices, methods, and materials is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex problems/data gathered from a variety of sources and, through effective decision-making and planning, and deliver superior business solutions.
- Experienced in day-to-day communication and management of contractors, suppliers and vendors.
- Ability to identify areas of potential problems and takes preventive/diagnostic steps to avoid those problems.
Qualifications/Education:
- Graduated in Engineering (Electromechanical, Mechatronics or Mechanical technology) required
- Certification in mechanical design software such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, Mastercam
- 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in medical device manufacturing or pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in Project Management and Continuous Improvement Projects.
- Knowledge of Process Control (DPMs, CPMs, Variance, etc...)
- Must have a thorough knowledge of costs.
- English level C1
Travel Requirements
Position may involve travel up to 40% of the time making overnight, extended trips to both domestic and international to equipment manufacturers, suppliers, other ConvaTec sites, and trade shows. Most trips will include overnight travel)
Special Factors
Employee is assigned to a specific shift, but flexibility in scheduling (including off shift and holiday work) and the ability to set priorities is required to meet the needs of the business in a manufacturing operation running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
