This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Automation Tester to join our Customer 360 team and help lead new work as the team builds integrations with BNZ's various banking platforms. 

At BNZ, we're transforming how we serve our customers through modern, connected technology that makes banking simpler, faster, and more reliable. As part of the Customer360 programme, our Integrations connect Salesforce/nCino with core systems, data platforms, banker and customer channels across the bank.  

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in either Wellington or Auckland, with a hybrid working approach of three days in the office and two days working flexibly. 

 

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

 

What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this tūranga will complete? 

• Technical expertise: Create automation test frameworks, prepare automation test scripts, execute and maintain them, and report and track defects through to closure. 

• Strategic thinking: Designing scalable automation frameworks, implementing shift-left testing, and ensuring high test coverage. 

• Problem solving: Handle flaky tests, debug efficiently, and optimise test execution for faster feedback. 

• Leadership and collaboration: Mentor junior team members, collaborate with engineers, and improve automation strategies so they align with business goals. 

• Business impact: Reduce manual effort, improve release cycle quality, and track key metrics such as defect leakage and automation ROI. 

 

What technical skills and attributes would be advantageous in this role? 

We are looking for a Senior Automation Tester with strong experience writing, maintaining and debugging automation tests, ideally with 6–8+ years’ experience in complex environments. 

 

The role requires hands-on experience designing and building test automation frameworks for both UI and API testing. Candidates should have experience with UI automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO, and API automation tools such as Rest-Assured, Karate, Postman/Newman, or similar frameworks. 

You will also bring: 

• Strong experience in test automation frameworks for APIs. 

• Experience with integration automation test frameworks in CI/CD pipelines. 

• Experience in banking or financial services, with strong analysis and problem-solving skills. 

• Experience applying risk-based testing practices to prioritise coverage across critical integrations, customer journeys, and high-impact change. 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Strong Java coding skills in automation testing; experience with Java microservices would be a bonus. 

• Experience with AI-assisted development workflows and agentic tooling as part of day-to-day engineering practice.

They will lead the team’s automation testing capability, helping to increase efficiency, accuracy and cost-effectiveness. They will also contribute to the wider automation testing capability across the organisation.
