HireNow Staffing is recruiting an experienced Nurse Manager (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for a full-time leadership opportunity in Houston, Texas.
This position is designed for an experienced neonatal nurse leader with recent acute-care NICU leadership experience and a strong clinical foundation within a Level III or Level IV NICU.
Working closely with the Director, the Nurse Manager will provide day-to-day clinical and operational leadership, support nursing staff, coordinate staffing and workflow, monitor patient safety and quality outcomes, and help advance the department's performance and long-term objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily clinical and operational leadership for the NICU.
  • Assist the Director with departmental activities, strategic priorities, and operational objectives.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for NICU patients.
  • Provide clinical guidance and leadership to nursing staff.
  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, assignments, and daily unit operations.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, patient-safety indicators, and quality metrics.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Promote compliance with hospital policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support orientation, training, competency assessment, and professional development of nursing staff.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nurses and other healthcare professionals.
  • Promote effective communication among nurses, physicians, ancillary departments, patients, and families.
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient care, workflow, staff engagement, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support appropriate staffing levels and efficient utilization of department resources.
  • Address patient care and staff concern promptly and escalate significant issues appropriately.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, professional nursing practice, and patient safety.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and departmental initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of NICU experience.
  • Recent acute-care NICU leadership experience within the last year.
  • Level III or Level IV NICU experience.
  • 2+ years of management or Charge Nurse experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current Texas Registered Nurse license or valid Multi-State Compact RN license.
  • Nurses practicing under a Compact license must obtain a Texas RN license within 60 days of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong clinical judgment and understanding of neonatal nursing practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience within a high-volume or complex NICU.
  • Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement experience.
  • Strong knowledge of neonatal nursing standards, patient-safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with nursing staff development and competency management.
  • Performance-management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve workflow, staff engagement, and clinical outcomes.

Compensation: $85,000–$113,000 annually

  • Strong communication and collaboration with neonatologists, physicians, nursing teams, and families.
  • Stable career progression demonstrating increasing neonatal nursing leadership responsibilities.

Candidates should not be submitted if they have:
  • Less than 2 years of NICU experience.
  • No recent acute-care NICU leadership experience within the last year.
  • No Level III or Level IV NICU experience.
  • Less than 2 years of qualifying management or Charge Nurse experience.
  • NICU bedside experience without the required leadership background.
  • No BSN.
  • No qualifying Texas RN or Multi-State Compact RN license.
  • Inability to obtain a Texas RN license within 60 days when practicing initially under a Compact license.
  • No current AHA BLS certification.
  • A primarily pediatric or adult critical-care background without the required NICU experience.
  • Jumpy employment history without reasonable explanation.
