Position Title: Senior Finance Analyst

Overview 

 

The Broker Dealer Regulatory Reporting Team is a key function within TD Securities Finance and is responsible for supporting the regulatory reporting obligations of the firm’s U.S. regulated broker-dealer entities. The team prepares and reviews core regulatory calculations and filings, including FOCUS reporting, Net Capital, and Customer Protection requirements, while maintaining the related policies, processes, controls, and governance needed to support accurate and timely reporting. In addition, the team provides management with key regulatory metrics to support business oversight, capital management, risk monitoring, and control objectives, and serves as a primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, regulators, external auditors, and other exam-related inquiries. 

 

Specific Accountabilities Include:

  • Prepare and take the lead on daily, weekly and monthly regulatory reporting calculations and filing deliverables, including FOCUS, Net Capital, and Customer Protection requirements, for U.S. regulated broker dealer entities. 

  • Assist in the monthly filing of the FOCUS and respective supplementals; SSOI, SLS, OBS, Form Custody. 

  • Identify opportunities to enhance the production process through automation and efficiencies as well as contribute towards evolving the collaboration model across functional areas within and outside of Finance. 

  • Optimize the regulatory reporting results into useful analytics for internal management purposes of capital usage and customer protection lock up. 

  • Assist with the flow of regulatory exams and audits involving the regulated entities. 

  • Participate in various team projects & initiatives in translating the tactical regulatory reporting processes into the desired strategic automated state 

 

Specific Requirements / Accreditations:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field; accounting proficiency is preferred. 

  • 3+ years of financial services experience, preferably in capital markets. 

  • Proven analytical skills and sound judgment in a dynamic business environment. 

  • Ability to translate complex, high-volume reporting requirements, and data into simple, consistent, and sustainable processes. 

  • Demonstrated data aggregation and reconciliation skills. 

  • Strong understanding of process and data governance, with exceptional attention to detail. 

  • Highly motivated, with a proven track record of delivering results. 

  • Curious, intuitive, and logical thinker with a strong interest in identifying and implementing process improvements. 

  • Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities. 

  • Understanding of Wholesale Banking and Capital Markets businesses, products, and related balance sheet and profit-and-loss movements. 

  • Collaborative team player who can also work effectively and independently. 

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Access skills are required; knowledge of Alteryx is an asset. 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and collaborate laterally with business partners. 

  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements would be an asset. 

  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with business partners and senior management at all levels.

 The Sr. Specialized Finance Analyst, TDS performs a variety of specialized finance functions in a particular finance area(s) with a high level of technical knowledge to give detailed and well-informed opinions of assigned business activities.

Depth & Scope:

  • Expert level professional role requiring in-depth knowledge / expertise in own domain / field of specialty and working knowledge of broader related areas

  • Integrates the broader organizational context into advice and solutions within own area

  • Accountable for own work and sometimes others; acts as an escalation point or knowledge resource for others in their own area

  • Applies best practices to implement process, product or service improvements

  • Acts as a subject matter expert within their own area of specialty or a resource for others

  • Supports projects or workstreams within broader projects with moderate risk or complexity and may be accountable for managing ongoing activities, processes and functional programs

  • Contributes to setting standards within area of expertise

  • Solves complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables, including consultation with multiple stakeholders

  • Uses advanced methods to contribute to new solutions and recommend standards against which others will operate

  • Impacts a range of finance programs across own and related teams

  • Interprets guidelines, standards, policies and results of analysis to inform decision making at senior levels

  • Builds stakeholder alignment in leading projects and activities; may provide process and subject matter advice at senior levels

  • Works independently as the senior technical lead and guides others within area of expertise

  • Identifies and leads problem resolution for complex issues at all levels

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or

  • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred

  • Accounting, financial or relevant professional designation preferred

Customer Accountabilities:

  • Specializes in particular areas according to established policies and procedures and applicable legal and regulatory guidelines

  • Provides ongoing, proactive, specialized finance advice and counsel to business partners to ensure they are operating efficiently under applicable accounting rules and regulations

  • Communicates and meets regularly with partners to develop an in-depth understanding of their business and to provide accounting/ taxation insight, knowledge and expertise, such as improving accounting process flows or clarifying income and expense recognition practices 

  • Recognizes, identifies and investigates business accounting issues that need attention, research as needed, offer specialized opinions based on research and knowledge and resolve problems 

  • Responds to accounting-related requests on a timely basis and answers questions as needed. 

  • Provides technical guidance and assist staff with most complex aspects of work as necessary 

  • Resolves escalated issues and problems by conferring with peers, other internal departments, outside contacts and others as necessary 

  • Ensures monthly recording of income, expense and other financial transactions is accurate and timely 

  • Researches and determines proper accounting treatment for new products and services as needed and communicate complete, thorough and accurate accounting requirements; considers and explains risk management issues prior to implementation, such as determining how the accounting of new initiatives will be monitored and controlled

  • Performs a variety of activities related to month-end financial closing, which details the Bank's month-to-month financial condition, and/or completion of regulatory reports

  • Reviews monthly financial activity and ensures transactions are appropriately recorded in proper accounts, such as cost capitalizing vs. expensing.  Researches discrepancies and makes corrections and updates as necessary

  • Conducts internal and external research projects; supports the development/ delivery of presentations / communications to management or broader audience

  • Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/ policies/ practices

  • Monitors service, productivity and assesses efficiency levels within own function and implements continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist

  • Leads / facilitates and/or implements actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues

  • Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements

  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts
