Senior System Engineer

Overview

Our client, a reputable financial institution, is seeking a hands-on System Engineer to support and enhance its mission-critical infrastructure environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operations, infrastructure maintenance, incident resolution and technology improvement across Windows, Linux, virtualisation, storage and backup platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the operational health, availability and performance of Windows and Linux server environments.
• Administer and enhance Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Exchange and WSUS.
• Provide hands-on production support for enterprise Linux servers, including troubleshooting, patching, performance tuning and root-cause analysis.
• Support VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualisation platforms, storage, backup and disaster-recovery solutions.
• Drive infrastructure upgrades, patching, technology refresh and continuous-improvement initiatives under established change-management procedures.
• Partner with IT Security to remediate vulnerabilities, strengthen system security and support compliance requirements within a regulated environment.
• Support hybrid connectivity between on-premise infrastructure and cloud services.
• Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and infrastructure standards.
• Participate in a roster-based on-call arrangement and scheduled after-hours maintenance to support critical services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in system administration, infrastructure operations or production support.
• Banking or financial-services experience is preferred; candidates from insurance, telecommunications, data-centre, MSP or large enterprise environments will also be considered.
• Solid, hands-on experience supporting Windows core infrastructure, including Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, WSUS and server patch management.
• Proven production support experience in Linux server administration, preferably Red Hat or other enterprise Linux distributions.
• Hands-on experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V, storage, backup and disaster recovery solutions is essential.
• Exposure to Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, cloud platforms, Ansible or Terraform would be an advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a production environment.
• Good communication skills in English and Chinese; (both Cantonese and Mandarin are required).
• Willingness to participate in on-call support and occasional after-hours maintenance.
