Job DescriptionJoin Merz Aesthetics Italia SrL as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) and contribute to our dynamic Medical Affairs team in the pharmaceutical industry. Based in Italy, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for internal and external medical and scientific education and support activities, and for delivering medical support in Italy for the Merz Aesthetics injectables and medical devices portfolio. Acting as a trusted scientific partner to healthcare professionals, the MSL independently engages in evidence-based scientific dialogue, supports appropriate product use, and translates field insights into organizational learning. The role operates within agreed medical strategies, regulatory guidelines, and company policies and procedures, and in alignment with non-promotional and ethical standards. This is a field-based position reporting to the Medical Affairs Manager, working in close cross-functional collaboration with Sales and Marketing.
Responsibilities- Build and maintain trusted, peer-to-peer scientific relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) across the Italian territory.
- Provide accurate clinical and scientific support on the Merz Aesthetics portfolio (injectables and energy-based / medical devices) and their safe and effective use, in compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal procedures.
- Maintain a high level of clinical and scientific knowledge of the Merz Aesthetics portfolio and of the competitive landscape, ensuring credible, fair and balanced scientific discourse.
- Deliver proactive medical and scientific field visits across Italy, providing education on the product portfolio to ensure its appropriate use and positioning, in close collaboration with Sales and Key Account Managers who coordinate customer engagement and event logistics.
- Disseminate the Medical Affairs educational plan to increase scientific awareness and advocacy of the Merz portfolio among HCPs in the field.
- Contribute medical and scientific expertise to workshops, masterclasses and expert-led educational events (e.g. led by ACEs or KOLs).
- Deliver education on clinical studies and real-world evidence so that HCPs remain scientifically up to date.
- In alignment with the Medical Affairs strategic plan, manage relationships with local and international KOLs and external trainers, maintaining a clear overview of who to engage for which activities (masterclasses, advisory boards, train-the-trainers, round-table discussions).
- Support the identification and selection of KOLs and the medical event management associated with assigned activities.
- Support the development and maintenance of KOL / HCP agreements and honoraria identification in line with company policy.
- Collect scientific insights, medical trends and unmet needs from field interactions, and share them in a structured manner with Medical Affairs and cross-functional teams.
- Maintain a bidirectional information flow with Sales and Marketing on customer engagement and scientific event planning, ensuring Medical Affairs is kept aligned on activities involving KOLs and HCPs.
- Provide clinical and scientific information on the Merz portfolio and competitors to internal stakeholders within non-promotional boundaries.
- Prepare and deliver internal medical training and support sales cycle meetings, using EMEA materials (e.g. slide decks) where appropriate.
- Support the Sales and Marketing teams with scientific questions coming from HCPs / customers.
- Act as first-line contact and support in case of adverse event and product complaint reporting.
- Ensure correct documentation and timely reporting according to PV / MV procedures, coordinating with the relevant functions and authorities.
- Work in full compliance with all applicable laws, industry codes, SOPs and ethical, non-promotional standards.
- Support the review of (non-)promotional materials in the approval system and / or the creation of scientific support presentations, contributing medical accuracy.
- Support local case-report initiatives, product-portfolio innovations and, where relevant, investigator-initiated activities led by Italian HCPs.
We are seeking an experienced professional who can adeptly communicate complex scientific information and foster strong working relationships. Ideal candidates will possess:
- Education: Master in Science (MSc), PharmD, PhD in a scientific discipline (e.g. Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Pharmacy, CTF, Biology, Biotechnology or equivalent).
- Work Experience: 3 years of related experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device or aesthetics industry, or in a scientific / clinical role with strong transferable experience.
- Driver's license (Cat. B)
The ideal candidate will also possess:
- Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD or equivalent).
- Experience in medical education, KOL engagement or physician continuous-education programs in the aesthetics or dermatology field.
- Working knowledge of the aesthetic injectables and energy-based / medical device landscape.
- Strong clinical and scientific knowledge in relevant therapeutic areas (aesthetics / dermatology).
- Business acumen and strong working knowledge of the medical device / pharmaceutical regulatory and compliance environment.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Fluent in Italian and English.
- Demonstrated history of teamwork and cross-functional collaboration
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
- Positive, proactive attitude and ability to work autonomously.
- Willingness to travel approximately 70–80% of the time (national).
