Senio Consultant, Risk Analytics
Position Summary
Northern Trust's Risk Data Management team is seeking a highly motivated Consultant, Risk Analytics to support Financial Crimes programs including AML, KYC, Transaction Monitoring, Screening, Regulatory Reporting, and Financial Crimes Data Modernization initiatives. This role will serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders, technology teams, and upstream data providers to improve data quality, resolve production issues, enhance reporting capabilities, and deliver strategic data solutions. The successful candidate will lead issue management activities, develop key risk and data quality metrics, monitor trends, and contribute to the design and implementation of scalable data solutions that strengthen the firm's Financial Crimes risk management framework.
Primary Responsibilities
Data Management & Analytics
- Lead and support data-focused initiatives across Financial Crimes disciplines including KYC, Screening, Transaction Monitoring, and Financial Crimes Reporting.
- Perform data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, root causes, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and maintain key risk indicators (KRIs), key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and management reporting dashboards.
- Monitor data quality trends and recommend remediation strategies to improve completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of critical data elements.
- Create executive-level reporting and presentations that provide insights into financial crime risks, operational performance, and data quality outcomes.
Production Issue Management
- Coordinate the identification, tracking, escalation, and resolution of production issues affecting Financial Crimes applications and data feeds.
- Lead root cause analysis efforts and partner with technology, operations, and business teams to drive timely resolution of incidents.
- Establish controls and monitoring processes to proactively identify data issues before they impact downstream processes or regulatory reporting.
- Maintain issue logs, remediation plans, and status reporting for management and governance forums.
Business & Data Partner Engagement
- Develop strong partnerships with upstream data providers, technology teams, Master Data Management (MDM), compliance partners, and business stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted advisor on data requirements, data quality expectations, and business impacts.
- Facilitate requirements gathering sessions and translate business needs into actionable data and technology solutions.
- Support data governance activities including data lineage, ownership, controls, metadata management, and data quality assessments.
Strategic Initiatives
- Participate in Financial Crimes modernization programs focused on improving data architecture, reporting, automation, and risk measurement capabilities.
- Support implementation and testing activities for new data integrations, system enhancements, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with audit, compliance, and regulatory inquiries by providing data analysis, documentation, and traceability of reporting results.
- Contribute to the development of sustainable operating models that improve transparency, accountability, and data governance across Financial Crimes programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 3-7 years of experience in risk management, financial crimes, compliance, data management, data analytics, or regulatory reporting.
- Experience working with financial services data and business processes.
- Experience supporting large-scale data, reporting, or transformation initiatives preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Advanced SQL and data analysis skills.
- Experience with reporting and visualization platforms such as Power BI, Sigma, and other business intelligence tools.
- Ability to investigate data anomalies, perform root cause analysis, and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong project management, issue management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build effective partnerships across business, technology, risk, and compliance teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting Financial Crimes, AML, KYC, Screening, Sanctions, Fraud, or Transaction Monitoring programs.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data quality, data lineage, and master data management concepts.
- Experience with data architecture, data modeling, business architecture, and strategic solution design supporting enterprise data initiatives.
- Familiarity with modern data platforms and cloud-based analytics environments including Databricks and/or Snowflake.
- Experience working with Actimize, Fenergo, Master Data Management (MDM) platforms, or other financial crime, risk, and compliance technology solutions.
- Experience supporting large-scale data modernization, regulatory reporting, or enterprise analytics initiatives.
- Familiarity with data products, semantic layers, ontologies, and modern data management frameworks used to improve data discoverability, consistency, and business consumption.
- Understanding of regulatory expectations related to AML, KYC, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and financial crimes compliance.
