Purpose: Why does this role exist – to what end result or outcome (business or customer) does it support?

Ensures that software products and solutions are thoroughly tested and fit for purpose to ensure that they meet functional and non-functional requirements and are fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities / Deliverables: What major activity or function does this role undertake

1. Planning and Strategy. Lead the Testing & Quality Assurance in the squad or project team to which they are allocated. Works with squad and project team members to identify test and QA requirements and develops test strategies and plans, covering functional, integration, and (where appropriate) user acceptance testing.
2. Test Execution. Is responsible for execution of the tests, works with team members and carries out hands on testing themselves. Monitors testing progress, errors, fixes, and re-testing.
3. Reporting & MI. Provides clear up to date and timely reporting and feedback to Squads and Project Managers to enable them to prioritise remaining work etc.
4. Continuous Improvement. Works closely with Software and DevOps Engineers to continually evolve the use of modern software development and deployment methodologies, including scripting, automated tested, etc.

• Leadership and management

Is accountable within a Squad or Project Team for ensuring that Technology Solutions are fully tested and meet functional, non-functional and acceptance requirements. Support other squad and project team members in the preparation and execution of test plans and scripts.

Where attached to a Squad plays a full role in the Squad activities, attends all Squad ceremonies, and undertakes whatever tasks are agreed in those ceremonies.

• Strategy and achieving objectives

Work in partnership with the QA Manager to ensure that test strategies and plans are appropriate and fit for purpose.

Works with QA Manager and squad and project team members to drive forward the overall QA and Testing vision, including the use of automated testing, and scripted deployment

Ensures that individual test plans and scripts are executed and that software deliverables are fit for purpose.

Additional Duties as required by management; this may include travel between L&Q sites.

• Working with others – internal

Works as an integral part of the Squad or Project to which they are attached. Take ownership for QA and Testing responsibilities within that group, whilst participating as a member of the wider team or squad and provide knowledge share to grow knowledge within the QA team as required.

Works with wider Technology colleagues to conduct hands-on analysis, testing of applications and infrastructure to confirm it is fit for use.

Works with business stakeholders to understand business use-cases of technology and systems to develop test scripts most appropriately.

Works with 3rd parties to ensure integration testing etc where 3rd party solutions form part of the overall Technology Solution.

• Compliance & Governance

Ensures that all testing and QA work is carried out in line with Standards, Processes and Methodologies defined and agreed by the QA Manager.

Ensure own compliance in respect of governance and adherence to relevant statutory and regulatory provisions.

Completes all Mandatory and essential training within prescribed deadlines.

• Records and systems

Maintains up to date status/progress reporting during sprints or projects

Ensures all document, scripts etc are stored centrally and promotes re-use wherever possible.

• Risks

Monitors and identifies risks associated with, or highlighted by, the overall QA process and ensures these are escalated promptly to product owners or project managers.
