Job Title:
Professional Engineer - Structural Engineering
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a Registered Structural Engineer to join their team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural engineering, combining technical expertise, practical experience, and leadership skills. The successful applicant will be an effective communicator with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams while delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Responsibilities & Skills:
- Lead and manage structural engineering projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and adherence to budgets and project timelines.
- Prepare conceptual designs, contribute to feasibility studies, and develop value-engineering and cost-optimised solutions.
- Produce and review structural designs using Revit, AutoCAD, and Prokon (finite element design software).
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers, supporting their professional development.
- Independently manage multiple projects under the guidance of the Director, ensuring successful project delivery.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to facilitate effective communication and project execution.
- Attend client meetings and conduct site visits as required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and oversee engineering design projects from inception to completion.
- Proven ability to independently manage multiple projects while collaborating with senior leadership to ensure successful delivery.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and professional approach.
- Willingness and ability to travel for site visits and client meetings.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience:
- B.Eng or BSc in Civil Engineering.
- Professionally registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in structural engineering.
- Expert proficiency in Prokon and finite element analysis (FEA) design software (e.g. Tekla Structural Designer).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and Revit.
- Own reliable vehicle is essential.
- Valid driver's licence.
