Bilingual (Spanish-Speaking/Writing/Reading) Candidates Preferred

 

Position involves completing reviews/recertifications, determining and/or redetermining applicants/clients eligibility for one or two of the Income Maintenance programs to ensure all eligible citizens receive appropriate and timely benefits. Requires analytical thinking and the ability to interpret and apply program policy. Individual in this position requires the ability to adapt to organizational change. Must maintain excellent customer service, accurate documentation and organized electronic records. Manage their individual job performance to effectively meet job expectations. Requires the ability to work in a teamwork setting and maintain effective working relationships within the agency. Work is reviewed through case review, observation, and periodic conferences. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews, gather information, and process applications, recertifications, and case changes.
  • Compute and update budgets, verify household income/resources, and enter data into county and state systems (including NC FAST).
  • Maintain case files, process incoming/outgoing mail, scan documents, and provide front desk support as needed.
  • Answer inquiries regarding eligibility, program requirements, and client rights/responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with social workers and other staff to ensure coordinated services.
  • Participate in training, outreach activities, and agency initiatives.
  • Assist in emergency operations as required.

The position requires the ability to quickly learn, evaluate, and apply program knowledge; research community resources; explain and recommend services; and refer customers to appropriate agencies. Cases are managed in the NC FAST system and other software programs.

Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in the following competencies: accountability, adaptability, advocacy, case management, analytical thinking, interviewing, communication, customer service, conflict management, documentation, investigation, interpersonal relations, initiative, integrity, professionalism, planning/organization, technical skills, time management, strong work ethic, and valuing diversity. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 


Administering the class: Course work at a Community College, Business or Technical School or course work at a four-year college or university may be substituted for general experience on a year-for-year basis for this class, but not for experience in an Income Maintenance Program.
