Position Summary

The Porter is responsible for the continuous removal and transport of trash throughout Bal Harbour Shops, ensuring all common areas remain clean, presentable, and free of waste at all times. When not actively portering trash, the Porter performs general custodial duties to support the cleanliness and appearance of the property. This role is essential to delivering the world-class guest experience expected at a luxury retail destination. 

Responsibilities

Trash Portering – Primary Duty

•  Continuously patrol all common areas, collecting and removing trash, litter, and debris throughout the shift   
•  Transport trash from common area receptacles, restrooms, and service areas to designated compactor or dumpster locations   
•  Empty, reline, and clean interior and exterior trash receptacles on a scheduled and as-needed basis   
•  Monitor trash levels and respond immediately to overflowing receptacles   
•  Break down and dispose of cardboard, boxes, and bulk waste in designated areas   
•  Operate trash carts, dollies, and other transport equipment safely   
•  Maintain cleanliness of service corridors, loading docks, and trash staging areas   
•  Report any maintenance issues, spills, or hazards encountered during trash rounds   

Custodial Duties – Secondary Duty

•  Clean and maintain common areas including walkways, plazas, restrooms, lounges, elevators, stairwells, and service corridors   
•  Perform sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and spot cleaning as directed   
•  Maintain outdoor areas including sidewalks, courtyards, and entryways   
•  Ensure restrooms are stocked, sanitized, and presentable   

Luxury Environment Standards

•  Maintain luxury-level cleanliness and presentation throughout the property at all times   
•  Work discreetly and professionally around guests and tenants   
•  Respond quickly to spills, litter, and cleanliness issues as they arise  

Sanitation & Safety

•  Follow all health, safety, and sanitation procedures   
•  Handle trash, waste, and cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with property guidelines   
•  Identify and report safety hazards, damages, or unusual activity   

Event & Seasonal Support

•  Assist with pre- and post-cleaning for events and seasonal décor installations   
•  Increase trash removal frequency during high-traffic periods and holidays   

Team Collaboration & Reporting

•  Work with facilities, landscaping, security, and management teams   
•  Complete assigned checklists and work orders   
•  Report supply, equipment, and trash container needs to supervisors   

Requirements

Required

•  Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including walking, lifting, and pushing for extended periods   
•  Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented   
•  Ability to follow procedures, schedules, and instructions  

Preferred

•  Prior experience in a porter, custodial, or facilities role   
•  Experience in luxury retail, hospitality, or mall environments   

Skills & Competencies

•  Strong work ethic and sense of urgency   
•  Professional appearance   
•  Good time management and ability to maintain pace throughout shift   

Physical Requirements

•  Ability to stand, walk, and push trash carts for extended periods   
•  Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs   
•  Ability to bend, kneel, and perform repetitive motions   
•  Ability to work outdoors in varying weather
