Qualifications and Experience Required:
- PhD in Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Artificial Intelligence/ Data Science or other related courses.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant tertiary/ university teaching, research, academic, and/or professional experience following attainment of the relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Demonstrated expertise in Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computing or a related discipline.
- A strong and sustained record of research and scholarly publications, including publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and recognized conference proceedings.
- Evidence of scholarly and research outputs such as journal articles, conference papers, books, book chapters, technical reports, patents, prototypes, software solutions, or other recognized research and innovation outputs.
- Experience in supervising undergraduate and/ or postgraduate research including dissertations, theses, or research projects.
- Evidence of research impact and scholarly contribution within the candidate’s field.
- Evidence of participation in or leadership of research, innovation, consultancy, externally funded projects, or industry-engagement initiatives.
- Strong academic leadership, communication, mentoring and interpersonal skills.
- Ability establish and maintain academic, research, industry, government, professional and institutional partnerships.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs)
- Provide high level teaching, research, and academic leadership in Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computing, and related disciplines.
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses through face-to-face and online learning platforms.
- Lead and contribute to curriculum development, programme review, accreditation and the development of new academic programmes.
- Undertake and lead high-quality research and innovation activities in relevant areas.
- Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, books and book chapters, and other recognized scholarly outlets.
- Maintain an active and sustained research publication profile.
- Initiate, lead, and participate in externally funded research, consultancy, innovation, and industry-based projects.
- Develop research proposals and contribute to securing research grants and external funding.
- Supervise undergraduate and post graduate research projects, dissertations, and theses.
- Mentor lecturers, researchers, post graduate students, and emerging academics in research, publications and scholarly development.
- Establish and strengthen research collaborations with universities, industry, government, professional bodies, and other external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of research clusters, innovation initiatives, laboratories and centres of excellence.
- Promote the translation of research and innovation into practical solutions with academic, industry, and societal Impact.
- Participate in institutional academic governance, quality assurance, research committees and academic policy development.
- Represent the University in academic, research, professional, and industry forums at national, regional, and international levels.
- Effective utilize Blackboard and other digital learning platforms and technologies to support teaching and student engagement.
Core Competencies:
- An established publication record in indexed and / or internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
- Evidence of citations, research visibility, or other recognized indicators of scholarly
- A strong record of postgraduate research supervision, including completed postgraduate students.
- Evidence of successfully securing or participating in externally funded research projects, grants, or consultancy assignments.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary, national, regional, or international research projects.
- Evidence of patents, prototypes, software solutions, commercialized innovation, technology transfer, or other recognized innovation outputs.
- Experience serving as a reviewer, editor, conference programme committee member , or member of recognized academic or professional bodies.
- Experience in curriculum development, programme accreditation, academic quality assurance, or institutional academic leadership.
- Relevant professional or industry certifications.
- A strong national, regional, or international academic and professional network.
