Description
What Your Day Will Look Like:
As a Construction Inspector supporting land development and municipal projects, you will monitor contractor activities on civil construction sites, including pipeline construction, water and wastewater facilities, detention and water quality ponds, utility testing, and interfacing with contractors, engineers, owners, and others with roles in the project. You will inspect materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
This is a hybrid field-and-office role that requires regular time both on active construction sites and in the office. Field work includes inspecting construction operations, documenting progress, and performing site visits to verify compliance with contract documents and quality standards. In-office time supports project planning, coordination, documentation, and timely communication with project teams, helping connect field observations with informed decisions, schedule management, and successful project delivery. The role requires demonstrated experience in civil construction projects, with a strong understanding of standard construction practices, water, wastewater and drainage systems, as well as local and statewide codes and specifications.
What You'll Do:
- Inspect, observe, document, and verify work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents, and plans.
- Monitor the installation of water, reclaimed water, and wastewater infrastructure, including pipelines, force mains, valves, manholes, pump stations, lift stations, and related utility improvements.
- Coordinate inspection activities with contractor superintendents, project engineers, utility staff, and agency representatives.
- Identify non-conforming work and communicate observations through proper documentation and reporting procedures.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, record documentation, and development of final estimate packages.
- Processing of pay applications submitted by contractors each month.
- Draft inspection reports for site visits documenting contractor activity.
- Attend and contribute to in-office meetings with project managers, engineers, and other project team members to support project planning, schedule development and updates, review upcoming work, identify coordination needs, and communicate field conditions that may affect project delivery.
- Complete in-office project support activities, including reviewing plans, specifications, schedules, reports, and contractor submittals; maintaining project records; following up on meeting action items; and preparing for upcoming inspections and construction activities.
- Perform and document field testing activities, including pressure testing, leakage testing, compaction testing, and other project-specific acceptance testing requirements.
- Direct coordination between contractors and engineering staff to ensure engineers are informed of project status and assist in any field modifications that need to be made.
- Conducting drone flights of project sites for engineering staff.
What You'll Need:
- HS diploma (BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred)
- 2 + years of construction inspection experience.
- OSHA 10 or 30 (preferred)
- FAA pt.107 license (preferred)
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience inspecting water, wastewater, utility, municipal infrastructure, or public works construction projects.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a field environment.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam or similar software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- This field job primarily operates in outdoor work environments that may include exposure to inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
- While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee may include frequent talking, hearing, standing, moving, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, balancing, coordination, and occasional sitting or operating a company vehicle. This job may require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
