This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for delivering safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led services across Outpatients and Pre-Assessment. You will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, ensuring patients receive an exceptional experience from their first consultation through to admission for surgery.
Working collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists, operational managers, theatre teams, ward teams and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will lead service development, drive clinical excellence, optimise patient pathways and support the continued growth of the hospital.
What You'll Do
As Outpatients & Pre-Assessment Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management, leadership and development of the Outpatients and Pre-Assessment departments.
Key responsibilities include:
Clinical Leadership
- Provide visible, professional and compassionate leadership to Outpatient and Pre-Assessment teams.
- Ensure delivery of safe, evidence-based and patient-centred care.
- Promote high standards of clinical practice and professional conduct.
- Lead on patient safety initiatives and quality improvement programmes.
- Support the development of a positive culture focused on continuous learning and excellence.
- Ensure services remain inspection-ready and compliant with all regulatory standards.
Pre-Assessment Services
- Ensure patients receive comprehensive pre-operative assessment and optimisation prior to surgery.
- Develop robust pathways for management of complex patients and those requiring specialist review.
- Work closely with consultants and anaesthetists to ensure patients are clinically fit for surgery.
- Support reduction in cancellations through effective pre-operative planning and risk management.
- Oversee management of diagnostics, investigations and anaesthetic referrals within pre-assessment pathways.
- Ensure compliance with Ramsay policies and national best practice standards.
Outpatient Services
- Ensure clinics operate efficiently with exceptional patient experience at the centre of service delivery.
- Maximise clinic utilisation and effective capacity management.
- Work collaboratively with consultants to optimise clinic scheduling and service efficiency.
- Monitor performance, demand and activity levels to support hospital growth and service development.
- Drive improvements in patient access, responsiveness and pathway performance.
Clinical Governance
- Lead governance processes across Outpatients and Pre-Assessment.
- Monitor incidents, complaints, patient feedback, risks and audit outcomes.
- Ensure appropriate investigation and learning from incidents and complaints.
- Maintain departmental risk registers and action plans.
- Support compliance with CQC Fundamental Standards, Ramsay policies and professional standards.
- Deliver quality improvement initiatives that improve patient outcomes and experience.
Workforce Leadership
- Lead, motivate and develop multidisciplinary teams.
- Support recruitment, retention and succession planning.
- Ensure staff receive regular appraisal, supervision and competency assessment.
- Promote staff wellbeing, engagement and professional development.
- Create a positive culture where staff feel valued, supported and empowered.
Operational Management
- Ensure departments are effectively staffed and resourced.
- Manage budgets, workforce planning and departmental expenditure.
- Deliver departmental KPIs and performance objectives.
- Monitor productivity, utilisation and operational efficiency.
- Support business growth through innovation and service development.
- Actively contribute to hospital operational and strategic objectives.
Consultant & Stakeholder Relationships
- Build strong and effective relationships with consultants and healthcare professionals.
- Support the introduction of new services and consultants.
- Work collaboratively with Theatre, Ward, Diagnostic Services and Governance teams.
- Act as a trusted clinical leader and professional role model across the hospital.
What You'll Bring With You
Essential
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Previous management experience within Outpatients, Ambulatory Care, Day Surgery or Pre-Assessment services.
- Strong clinical background with knowledge of elective surgical pathways.
- Demonstrable leadership and people management experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement.
- Strong understanding of CQC standards and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organisational and operational management skills.
Desirable
- Management or Leadership qualification.
- Experience within the independent healthcare sector.
- Knowledge of perioperative medicine and surgical optimisation pathways.
- Experience of service redesign and pathway improvement.
- Budget management experience.
- ILS or ALS qualification.
