Market Risk is a critical control and strategic advisory function within the Supply, Trading & Shipping Finance organization, responsible for providing independent, actionable insight across the global portfolio. Reporting directly to the VP Risk, the Senior Manager Transformation & Strategy will lead the evolution of market risk operations by redesigning processes, driving greater consistency, eliminating duplication, and delivering systems solutions.
The role will be instrumental in advancing the risk strategy and assessing alignment between trading positions and market views. It requires a strong understanding of trading strategies, process improvement, project delivery, and risk management, combined with effective global leadership and collaboration. Success will depend on balancing independence with partnership, enabling the business while maintaining a robust control framework. The successful candidate will also contribute to regional and global strategic priorities, lead standardization initiatives, support new market activities, and drive capability development and continuous improvement across the function.

Key Accountabilities
Lead and develop a high-performing global team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and commercial partnership; oversee talent development, succession planning, and regional execution of global priorities.
Drive delivery of transformation initiatives, including project management, process improvement, and systems implementation to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
Lead the development and execution of market risk models, ensuring accuracy and relevance across portfolios and consistency across processes, systems, and people.
Provide strategic market risk leadership, aligning risk oversight with commercial objectives and trading strategies, and translating risk metrics into clear, actionable insights for the Front Office and senior stakeholders.
Deliver high-quality risk analytics and reporting, including timely valuation of trading exposures and forward-looking insights on market trends, regulatory developments, emerging risks, and scenario analysis.
Strengthen communication and decision-making by engaging effectively with the Front Office, Market Risk, I&E, and other key stakeholders.
Establish and uphold robust risk governance, shaping and enforcing policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and maintaining a strong control framework.
Drive standardization and continuous improvement, enhancing processes, systems, and data quality in collaboration with Technology and global teams.
Enable cross-functional collaboration, identifying and resolving market risk issues and supporting new market entries and strategic deals.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Previous Market Risk or relevant Front Office/Analytics experience; acquired working either within bp or within the energy trading sector.
Strong strategic thinking and project leadership across multi-disciplinary teams.
Deep understanding of physical and financial commodity trading (gas/oil), including derivatives and valuation techniques.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex deals and align risk with commercial strategy.
Advanced analytical and financial skills, specifically VaR, stress tests, and liquidity measures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across all organizational levels.
Track record of people leadership, team development, and delivering against organizational expectations.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and drive operational improvements.
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building across trading, risk, and support functions.
Commitment to excellence, independence, and proactive problem-solving in a dynamic environment.
- MBA, CFA, or similar advanced degree an asset
