Description of Work
This Environmental Specialist II position is located in the DWM UST Section in the Fayetteville Regional Office. This position will perform technical and regulatory reviews of environmental reports, address complaints and spill notifications and provide the appropriate responses. Documents are maintained and actions are tracked on UST databases. This position will require field visits.Key Responsibilities:
• Provides independent technical and regulatory reviews of initial environmental reports for petroleum releases and prepare subsequent appropriate correspondence and update databases.
• Communicates technical and regulatory information to stakeholders that include responsible parties, consultants, municipalities, other Divisions and Agencies, and the general public.
• Conducts site visits to investigate complaints, verify spill cleanup, and provide regulatory oversight of field activities.
• Prepares enforcement correspondence for non-compliant responsible parties.

Recruitment Range: $52,592 - $56,650

The Division of Waste Management is responsible for protecting the public health and environment through assuring that solid and hazardous waste and underground storage tanks are managed properly, and existing contamination is cleaned up across the State of North Carolina. This is accomplished through the Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, Superfund and Underground Storage Tank Sections, and the Brownfields Redevelopment Section.
