Why This Role 

Illinois Bone & Joint Institute (IBJI) is the largest independent orthopedic group in the Midwest with over 150  physicians and more than 100 locations across Chicagoland. Our Legal Department is small and high-trust, and our Law Clerk Program offers hands-on experience with the legal and business issues facing a healthcare  organization. You will work directly with the General Counsel and legal team on research, contracts,  compliance, and active matters, developing the judgment and practical skills that connect law school to in house practice. 

What You'll Own 

• Legal Research and Analysis — research healthcare, corporate, employment, and other legal issues;  prepare concise memoranda that identify relevant authority, explain the analysis, and flag practical  considerations for attorney review. 

• Contract and Document Support — assist with drafting and reviewing agreements, correspondence, and  policies; compare revisions, identify issues, and support contract routing, execution, tracking, and  renewal. 

• Compliance and Policy Support — research state and federal requirements, help review policies and  compliance materials, and assist with regulatory updates and employee training resources. 

• Litigation and Matter Support — help prepare chronologies, document summaries, and materials for  litigation, subpoenas, claims, and internal reviews; organize files and track assigned deadlines. 

• Legal Operations and Special Projects — support contract-management systems, corporate records, and  department projects; assist with meeting preparation, correspondence, and other administrative needs of  the General Counsel’s office.

Requirements

What We're Looking For 

• Current enrollment in an accredited law school and strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills. 

• Interest in healthcare law or in-house practice. Relevant coursework or prior experience is helpful but not  required. 

• Attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion with sensitive information, and a willingness to learn and  incorporate feedback. 

• Ability to manage competing assignments, meet deadlines, communicate progress, and work effectively  with attorneys and business colleagues. 

• Comfort with Microsoft Office and legal research tools, plus a willingness to learn contract- and  document-management systems. 

• Availability for a part-time schedule across three to four days per week. On-site work is preferred; a  hybrid arrangement may be available.

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
