ABOUT THE ROLE

The John Lewis Financial Service Product team are looking for an Associate Product Manager to join their team in successfully owning, prioritising and managing the Product Backlog, ensuring it represents business, customer and end user goals. Your decisions will be visible through the content and ordering of a clear and transparent Product Backlog and roadmap, designed to best achieve the goals and mission of your product.
Using your analytical skills you will be identifying commercial and customer experience opportunities to elevate Insurance customer journeys across acquisition, in-life and through renewal. In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 22:00 - 06:00 will attract Night Premium at a rate of £5.25 per hour. This will also apply to existing Partners who have enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.
  • Working pattern/flexible working - The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Product team meets 1 day a week in the London head office to connect and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings.

Key responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for maximising the value of the product, becoming the subject matter expert within your assigned Product team, representing the voice of the customer, end user and business stakeholders and developing deep empathy within a complex and rapidly changing environment.

  • Developing rapport and trust with business owners, key stakeholders and a highly technical Development team will be key to your success, as well as fostering a strong support network among other Partners in the Product team.

  • With support from the team and the Product Manager/Lead for that stream, create an inspiring vision for the product outcome using industry, customer and business insights that supports the broader vision for Digital Product development.

  • Setting clear and stretching objectives and key results (OKRs) to track the desired product outcomes.

  • Working with the team and the Product Manager/Lead to build, own and manage a Product Backlog that is visible, transparent, and clear to all, and shows what the product team will work on next, providing clarity on the value it will deliver and alignment to the overall objectives and key results (OKRs).

  • Learning to write clear requirements and ensure that the Development team has an adequate quantity and quality of stories ready for each Sprint.

  • Assisting in the creation of functional and nonfunctional requirements in collaboration with Product Managers and Development teams.

  • Delivering effective and timely communication of your product roadmap.

  • Using insight, data and analytics to identify opportunities to continually improve and iterate the product.

  • Managing scope and tracking progress of releases, ensuring features are handed over to end users effectively and impact of development effort is understood.

  • Actively seek the support of Product Managers and the Product Lead to develop your expertise in relation to Agile practice, your subject matter and customer insight.

Essential skills/experience you’ll need

ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP

We’re the largest employee owned business in the UK and home of our cherished brands, John Lewis and Waitrose. We’re not just employees, we’re Partners, driven by our purpose to build a happier world. As we look to our future, there’s never been a more exciting time to join us.

We’re ruthlessly focused on being brilliant at retail. We continue to innovate, adapt and diversify. Never Knowingly Undersold on price, quality and service in John Lewis and passionately serving food-lovers in Waitrose.

As Partners we all share the responsibility of ownership and in its rewards. We use our voices to contribute to our success, working together through the good and challenging times, holding true to our behaviours and treating everyone with kindness and respect.

We all own making the Partnership somewhere we belong. Embracing our differences and creating an environment where we’re free to be ourselves and can THRIVE. Growing ourselves individually, and as a collective.

As Partners, we make all the difference. And, we all own it.

Important points to note:

It’s important to note that some of our roles are subject to pre-employment vetting (which may include DBS checks for successful candidates). If required, you’ll be informed and provided with information about vetting during the recruitment process and we encourage you to complete any vetting documents quickly to avoid delays. Any DBS checks required will be carried out by a third-party registered body and financial probity checks may also be required for some of our roles.

We also recommend that you apply as soon as possible as vacancies can close early if we see a high number of applicants.

We want all of our Partners to have a good work-life balance and we support flexible working. This might mean flexible or compressed hours, job sharing or shorter hour contracts, where possible. Please discuss this further with the hiring manager during your interview.
