Responsibilities
New York Institute of Technology- College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) seeks a Director of Medical Library at our Long Island (Old Westbury) campus. Reporting to the Associate Dean, the candidate will oversee the New York Based COM library team.
Responsibilities include:
- Work closely with the library team and the medical library at the Jonesboro, AR campus to establish programs, services and activities that meet the instructional, research and clinical needs of the department/school.
- Support faculty, researchers and students engaged in data intensive research, including assistance with data discovery, management, and the use of relevant tools and methodologies, working collaboratively with the libraries team.
- Serve as a liaison to departments within the COM and to the School of Health Professions, providing outreach, instruction, collection support and research consultation services.
- Design and teach instruction sessions in a variety of formats to meet the needs of diverse user groups. This may include the creation of asynchronous learning tools/objects.
- Coordinate a systematic review service, help researchers and students navigate systematic reviews from protocol to publication and conduct systematic review searches.
- Responsible for the cataloging and classification of library materials in all physical formats and subjects using national standards and local practices (OCLC and SIRSIDynix).
- Support Docline and OCLC resource sharing processes.
- Support emerging uses of AI in research and teaching by providing guidance on tools, evaluation of outputs and responsive use, working collaboratively with data and technology teams.
- Collaborate on evaluating new resources and information platforms.
This is an evening position. Hours are Monday - Friday, from 11am - 7pm
Qualifications
Required Degree(s): M.L.S. or advanced degree with a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position.
Preferred Degree(s): M.L.S. - Required Field of Expertise: library science; information services.
Preferred Field of Expertise: library science; information services Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: - A minimum of five years of experience working in a health science library or academic library providing information services to clinicians. Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of cataloging and OCLC preferred; familiarity with SIRSI and latest library technology preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with emerging learning and research technologies, as well as information retrieval. Knowledge of PubMed, CINAHL and other health sciences databases and demonstrated experience developing search strategies for literature reviews.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth, with the ability to adapt to evolving technologies, instructional methods and information resources.
