Application Engineer

The Role:

The Application Engineer will be responsible for selecting, rating, and quoting both standard and engineered heat transfer products to satisfy customer specifications in accordance with sound engineering practice.  This position will work with the sales team to produce quotes that drive sales and provide technical assistance to the sales team and customer.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to provide technical expertise to our salespeople, reps and distributors and customers in our Heat Transfer products. This role offers the opportunity to apply engineering expertise across a variety of industries, including industrial manufacturing, HVAC, power generation, chemical processing, and water markets 

Core Responsibilities:

• Review customer specifications and select the optimal heat transfer solution.
• Perform thermal analysis and equipment sizing for standard and engineered products.
• Prepare technical and commercial quotations in partnership with sales and manufacturing teams.
• Provide technical expertise to sales teams, representatives, distributors, and customers.
• Support pricing strategies, market analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 procedures and support contract review activities.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

• Basic understanding of heat transfer principles, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
• Analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer relationship management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Autocad.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1 to 3 years of experience in application engineering, sales engineering, thermal systems, process equipment, heat exchangers, HVAC equipment, or related industrial products.

• Ability to interpret technical specifications, P&IDs, engineering drawings, and industry standards.

• Salesforce CRM experience is a plus.

• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and operate standard office equipment.
• Occasionally required to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to safely work around fabrication equipment, pumps, piping systems, valves, pressure vessels, and other industrial machinery.
• Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting manufacturing or customer facilities.
• Work is primarily performed in an office environment with moderate noise levels and seasonal temperature variations.
• May occasionally be exposed to manufacturing, industrial, and construction site environments.

Travel Requirements

• Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities, customer sites, representative and distributor locations, trade shows, and operating industrial plants may be required.  

SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000.   Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.  At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
