Supplier Quality Engineer I/II

Woodward’s Industrial Product Division in Fort Collins, Colorado is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer I or II who is responsible for evaluating supplier performance, identifying and resolving quality issues, and driving continuous improvement across the supply base. This role partners with procurement, engineering, and production teams to ensure suppliers meet quality, compliance, and business requirements. The position also supports quality documentation, reporting, supplier audits, and corrective action activities to improve product and process quality.

Level 1: Estimated annual base pay: $62,000-$86,000

Level 2: Estimated annual base pay: $75,000-$102,000

Level 1:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Supplier Performance: Evaluates supplier quality metrics and conducts regular assessments to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Resolve Quality Issues: Identifies root causes of supplier-related quality problems and implements effective corrective actions.
  • Enhance Quality Processes: Collaborates with suppliers to develop and improve quality control procedures that meet customer and company requirements.
  • Maintain Quality Documentation: Prepares and manages detailed reports and records related to supplier quality performance and compliance.
  • Facilitate Cross Functional Communication: Works with internal teams such as procurement and engineering to align on quality standards and address supplier concerns.

  • Communication: Excellent ability to convey complex quality information clearly to suppliers and internal teams.
  • Auditing: Skilled in conducting supplier quality audits to ensure adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Experienced in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance supplier quality and operational efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledgeable in relevant industry standards and regulations to ensure supplier adherence and compliance.
  • Team Collaboration: Effective at collaborating with cross-functional teams to address quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Have the Following Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required; technical degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in quality, manufacturing, inspection, or a related technical field.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and quality system requirements (ISO 9001).
  • Familiarity with problem-solving and quality tools such as RCCA, 8D, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Manufacturing, supplier quality, Lean, Six Sigma (LSS), APQP, or PPAP experience preferred.

Level 2:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Performance Evaluation: Conduct regular assessments of supplier quality metrics to ensure adherence to established standards and contractual requirements.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Identify and analyze complex quality issues, determining root causes and developing effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Continuous Improvement Leadership: Lead small scale improvement projects focused on enhancing supplier processes and product quality through the implementation of best practices.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Work closely with procurement, engineering, and production teams to align supplier quality objectives with overall business goals.
  • Quality Documentation and Reporting: Develop and maintain comprehensive quality reports and documentation to track supplier performance and support informed decision making.

  • Quality Management: Proficient in implementing and maintaining quality management systems to ensure supplier compliance and product standards.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Skilled in identifying and analyzing root causes of quality issues to develop effective corrective actions.
  • Statistical Analysis: Expertise in utilizing statistical tools and methodologies for quality data analysis and process optimization.
  • Supplier Assessment: Experienced in evaluating and auditing suppliers to ensure adherence to quality and performance standards.
  • Project Management: Capable of managing quality improvement projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely and successful outcomes.
  • Process Improvement: Adept at identifying and implementing process enhancements to increase efficiency and product quality.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent in conveying complex quality information clearly and building consensus among cross functional teams.
  • Problem Solving: Strong ability to develop innovative solutions to complex quality challenges based on comprehensive data analysis.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledgeable in industry regulations and standards to ensure supplier and product compliance.
  • Leadership: Able to guide and mentor less experienced colleagues and lead small scale projects with minimal oversight

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Have the Following Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required; technical degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing, machining, or quality engineering.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
  • Experience with RCCA, 8D, A3, PPAP, and supplier audits.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
