Senior Data Scientist

Amgen is expanding its global Data Science capabilities, with Amgen India (AIN) playing a key role in integrated delivery and functional leadership. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will independently lead complex analytical initiatives, designing and deploying advanced modeling, forecasting, and AI solutions that enable data-driven decision making across Clinical Development. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement to deliver high-quality, scalable analytics, influence strategic decisions, and help develop the capabilities of the broader Data Science team.

 

Responsibilities

•       Lead the design, development and validation of advanced models for clinical trial planning and operations.

•       Integrate and assess multi-source clinical and operational data; define analysis-ready data and quality checks.

•       Select fit-for-purpose statistical, forecasting, ML or AI methods and evaluate alternatives, uncertainty and limitations.

•       Develop robust code, reusable components and analytical pipelines using Python, R, SQL and approved cloud platforms.

•       Translate results into practical scenarios, recommendations and decision support for study and portfolio teams.

•       Guide Data Scientists and coordinate delivery with clinical, statistics, programming, digital and data-platform partners.

Accountabilities

•       Own complex analytical workstreams and deliver agreed scope, quality and timelines.

•       Ensure methods, code, validation, documentation and communication meet reproducibility, compliance and governance expectations.

•       Improve reusable modelling capabilities, standards and ways of working across the Data Science team.

•       Identify and mitigate data, model, adoption and delivery risks; escalate material issues with clear options.

End-User Experience

•       Co-design analytical products with CfDA, GBS, GDO and clinical stakeholders around priority decisions and user needs.

•       Lead user testing, adoption feedback and iterative improvement of models and technology-enabled products.

•       Build trusted stakeholder relationships and communicate trade-offs, assumptions and limitations early.

Metrics

•       Timely delivery and adoption of validated analyses, models and documentation.

•       Quality, reproducibility, reuse and maintainability of analytical solutions.

•       Evidence that insights improve operational decisions and build team capability.

 

This position is currently located at Amgen India (Hyderabad).

Basic Qualifications:

•       Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience, OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience.

 

Preferred Skills:

•       Advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Life Sciences or another quantitative field.

•       Three or more years in clinical research, pharma, predictive analytics or a related applied setting.

•       Advanced capability in Python and/or R plus SQL, reproducible workflows, version control, testing and cloud analytics.

•       End-to-end experience developing, validating and operationalizing statistical, forecasting, ML or AI solutions.

•       Experience leading analytical workstreams and coaching peers or junior colleagues.
