ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Religious and Spiritual Life Associate will provide programmatic, logistical, and administrative support to Religious and Spiritual Life (RSL) related activities, programs, and operations. The Religious and Spiritual Life Associate, under the direction of the Chaplains, will assist and support all aspects of Religious and Spiritual Life at The Claremont Colleges, including organizing and running interfaith activities. The work schedule is up to 20 hours per week depending on several factors. Many programs and events occur in the evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position runs concurrently with the academic year from August to May and anticipated to end approximately on May 31, 2027.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The following are the fundamental duties and responsibilities of this position which the incumbent must be able to perform to fulfill the purpose and requirements of this position.

Religious and Spiritual Life Programming Support

  • Logistical support for and attendance of most RSL programs which may occur on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Organizing and running interfaith activities, including support for interfaith and other religious and spiritual undergraduate and graduate student groups.

  • Publicity and marketing of programs (including e-mails, flyers, social media, newspaper, calendars, brochures, website, etc.).

  • Advocacy for religious and spiritual life on campus.

  • Coordinating the recording, photography, and signs-ups of events and programs.

  • Planning, coordinating, executing, and follow-up of weekly, monthly, semester, annual, and major religious holidays programming activities.

Administrative Support and Other Duties

  • Assist with procuring and delivery of supplies and food when needed.

  • Assisting with updating Google Drive and Box cloud documents.

  • Coordinating with students, faculty, and staff, and off-campus partners when necessary.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Unless otherwise stated, the following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.

Education/Training: Background in studying religion. Preference will be given to those with degrees and/or certificates in some form of spirituality.

 

Experience: Some experience collaborating with and/or providing support to college-aged or teenage students is desirable.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various religious and spiritual life cultures culture and customs or sincere and keen willingness to learn.

  • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexible, organized, creative, energetic spirit.

  • Excellent planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent multitasking and organizational skills.

  • Flexible schedule.

  • Responsive to communications in a timely manner.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and MS Outlook.

  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team and have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments.

 

Certifications/Licenses:

A valid driver’s license and satisfactory results on the following post-offer pre-employment driving record check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with student populations, preferably undergraduate and graduate.

  • Commitment to interfaith pluralism.

  • Proficiency in Box Google Calendar, Mailchimp, Adobe, and Canva.

  • Experience with web or graphic design.

  • One year of continuous work experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position performs work in an office environment and requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer.  

  • The role involves frequent use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment, as well as repetitive hand and wrist movements. 

  • The position requires the ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, video conference, and electronic communication; read and interpret printed and electronic documents; and exchange accurate information with employees, supervisors, and external partners. 

  • This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work on a continuous basis and involves prolonged standing and walking, frequent movement into varying body positions, and regular climbing of ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or similar structures.

  • The role occasionally requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, equipment, and objects weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as working in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather and environmental conditions, including noisy, confined, elevated, or low-ventilation spaces.

  • Employees must be able to safely operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery, including street-legal golf carts and company vehicles, communicate effectively in person and by phone or other devices, read and interpret printed or electronic materials, and occasionally perform computer-based work requiring repetitive hand and wrist movement.

Work Schedule:

The regular hours for this part-time position are up to 20 hours per week during the academic year from late August to late May. Work shifts may be available during breaks from classes by request. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.

COMPENSATION

Pay: The pay rate for this position is $20 per hour.

 

Benefits: Due to the temporary nature of this position, it is only eligible for the following benefits: California Sick Leave, workers’ compensation, disability, Medicare, and social security, subject to the terms and conditions in the plan documents/policies.
