About NFSA
The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is a 120 year old Association and the leading voice of the fire sprinkler industry, dedicated to saving lives and protecting property through fire sprinkler advocacy, technical expertise, and education. NFSA engineers provide essential technical support to our members through the Expert of the Day (EOD) service, research initiatives, industry representation, and training programs.
As a Staff Accountant, you will help ensure the financial integrity of the Association by supporting day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing dependable financial support to internal stakeholders. Your work directly contributes to NFSA's ability to serve its members and advance fire and life safety.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the Finance Department by performing daily accounting functions that ensure the accuracy and integrity of NFSA's financial records. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
· Invoicing and collection of membership dues and other miscellaneous invoices.
· Collection and reconciliation of contractor contributions (non-members)
· Billing union and non-union members based on contracts, hours and revenue submitted.
· Deposit and post cash receipts and credit card payments.
· Issue and apply credit memos as necessary.
· Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
· Reconcile bank accounts, credit card reports, and general ledger accounts.
· Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
· Assist with preparing schedules and documentation for annual audit requests.
· Collaborate with departments across the organization to resolve accounting questions.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or two to five years of relevant accounting experience.
· Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
· Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite skills.
Preferred
· Experience with Microsoft Dynamics UX 365
· Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central.
· Experience working in a nonprofit, association, or membership organization.
