About the role
The Occupational Health Nurse, UK is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based occupational health services for UK colleagues, with a primary focus on London and Weybridge. The role provides visible clinical presence, practical case management and trusted advice to employees, managers, HR, Employee Relations, EHS and workplace teams.
Reporting directly to the Global Head of Employee Health and Wellbeing, the postholder will support Haleon’s occupational health operating model by delivering local services, applying global minimum standards and escalating complex or specialist matters appropriately.
The role will combine clinical service delivery with prevention, early intervention and workplace health improvement. It will contribute to Haleon’s Protect, Support and Grow strategy by preventing work-related ill health, enabling colleagues to remain at or return to work safely, and supporting a healthy, inclusive and high-performing workplace
Key Responsibilities
Occupational health service delivery
- Deliver confidential occupational health consultations for UK employees, including management referrals, fitness-for-work advice, return-to-work support and rehabilitation planning.
- Provide clear, practical and evidence-based recommendations on workplace adjustments, functional capability, attendance and safe, sustainable work.
- Undertake health surveillance and statutory or risk-based assessments associated with the Weybridge population, in line with applicable requirements and Haleon standards.
- Support pre-placement and role-change assessments, workplace accommodations, ill-health and disability case management, and referrals to appropriate specialist services.
- Deliver travel, occupational and seasonal vaccination activity where commissioned, clinically appropriate and within competence.
Clinical governance, quality and records
- Practise in accordance with the NMC Code, relevant UK legislation, professional guidance, confidentiality requirements and Haleon clinical governance arrangements.
- Maintain accurate, timely and secure clinical records using approved occupational health systems and data standards.
- Work to global minimum standards and UK procedures, identifying gaps, incidents or emerging risks and escalating them promptly.
- Participate in clinical audit, assurance, case review, peer learning, continuing professional development and service improvement.
- Recognise professional limits and escalate complex, high-risk or specialist matters to the Global Head of EHW or designated medical adviser.
Business partnering and stakeholder engagement
- Act as an accessible occupational health contact for employees, managers, HR, Employee Relations, EHS, Benefits, Facilities and workplace teams.
- Translate clinical information into proportionate, business-relevant advice while preserving clinical confidentiality and employee trust.
- Build effective relationships with UK site leaders and support local health risk, absence, accommodation and workplace health priorities.
Health protection, prevention and wellbeing
- Support the identification and control of work-related health risks, including ergonomic, psychosocial, chemical, physical and biological risks within the scope of the role.
- Contribute to medical emergency preparedness, first-aid arrangements, health threat response and business continuity planning as required.
- Deliver or support targeted health promotion and wellbeing interventions aligned with Haleon priorities, including musculoskeletal health, mental wellbeing, preventative health and oral health.
Data, insights and continuous improvement
- Capture complete and consistent activity, outcome and quality data in approved systems.
- Monitor service demand and themes across the UK population, highlighting health risks, recurring barriers and opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to dashboards, KPIs, audit evidence and reporting while maintaining privacy and appropriate aggregation.
- Support the implementation and improvement of occupational health standards, pathways, tools and operating procedures.
Service coordination and external providers
- Coordinate effectively with external occupational health, vaccination, physiotherapy, mental health and other specialist providers where services are outsourced.
- Support referral quality, continuity of care, service-level monitoring and resolution of operational issues.
- Work flexibly across Haleon locations, with the role primarily based in London and expected to spend approximately 2-4 days per month at Weybridge, adjusted to service need.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications: Required
- Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Recognised qualification in occupational health nursing, or demonstrable equivalent occupational health competence and experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to occupational health practice.
Qualifications: Preferred
- Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Occupational Health) qualification, or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
- Training or certification in health surveillance, vaccination, case management, ergonomics, mental health or workplace assessment.
Experience: Required
- Substantial occupational health nursing experience in a UK workplace setting.
- Hands-on experience of management referrals, fitness-for-work assessment, absence and rehabilitation case management, workplace adjustments and health surveillance.
- Experience working collaboratively with managers, HR, Employee Relations, EHS and external clinical providers.
- Experience maintaining confidential clinical records and using occupational health information systems.
Experience: Preferred
- Experience in a large, complex or multinational organisation.
- Experience supporting office, R&D, laboratory or consumer healthcare populations.
- Experience contributing to clinical audit, assurance, service mobilisation or continuous improvement.
- Experience delivering vaccination or health-promotion programmes.
