Description

At AlixPartners, we solve the most complex and critical challenges in financial services, moving quickly from analysis to action when it matters most and creating value that lasts for institutions, their people, and the communities they serve. We understand, respect, and honour the needs of our employees, clients, and communities, and we actively promote an inclusive environment. We believe diversity strengthens our work and are committed to continually improving our initiatives, policies, and practices. We hold ourselves accountable by providing space for authenticity, growth, and equity for everyone.

AlixPartners has embraced a hybrid work model that supports work-life integration. The model combines in-person work, at a client site or in our London office, with remote working. This role requires three days per week in the London office or on client site. Travel is part of the role, though frequency varies with client, team, and individual circumstances.

What you’ll do

Our Financial Services Advisory team provides independent, senior-level expertise that helps banks, insurers, wealth managers, and payments providers drive value from technology and improve business performance. You will lead engagements across:

  • Strategy and operating model design for retail financial services, including governance and capability design
  • Payments and open banking strategy, including real-time payments, account-to-account payments, and go-to-market planning for new payment products
  • Target architecture and transformation roadmaps for core banking, payments, wealth, and insurance platforms, aligned to business objectives across data, application and integration, and infrastructure
  • Cost reduction, outsourcing, and end-to-end transformation programmes, including operational improvement for payments and financial services businesses
  • Platform and systems assessments, re-platforming, and rationalisation, including legacy modernisation
  • Commercial and technology due diligence, carve-outs, and merger integration, including private equity transactions spanning buy-side diligence, sell-side preparation, value creation planning, and exit readiness
  • Customer analytics and AI-enabled decision-making, including fraud, risk, and growth use cases
  • IT crisis management, interim leadership, and project turnaround for financial institutions

Central to our work is the technology strategy, organisation, applications, and infrastructure that underpin successful transformation in financial services. You will define and design target-state solutions, transition strategies, and roadmaps, and assess capability needs and associated risks. You will work closely with senior clients to address strategic, operational, and technological challenges, bridging the gap between technology and business to deliver measurable results.

What you’ll need

  • A consulting background in financial services.
  • A “T-shaped” profile with experience in retail financial services, such as retail banking, wealth management, insurance, or payments. You bring versatility across multiple FS sectors and deep expertise in at least one subsector.
  • Previous practical experience as an Enterprise Architect, with proven experience designing enterprise-wide technology solutions for financial institutions, working with business and technology teams.
  • Experience in payments, fintech, or digital financial services, such as strategy for payment products, digital money movement, or customer growth in a scaling business.
  • A good understanding of software delivery, infrastructure, operations, and governance.
  • Experience conducting rapid digital diagnostics and maturity assessments, identifying capability gaps, and defining pragmatic roadmaps that drive business value.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent presentation capabilities and comfort speaking to senior non-technical executives.
  • Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills, along with strong financial literacy.
  • Ability to travel for client work and to work full time in an office and remote environment.

Preferred:

  • Industry experience within financial services.
  • European language capability, such as Spanish, Portuguese, or another European language.
  • Private equity transaction experience, such as buy-side due diligence, value creation planning, and exit readiness.
  • Performance improvement and cost transformation experience.
  • Experience applying data analytics or AI to fraud detection, risk, or customer insight in financial services.
  • Experience in wealth management, insurance, or financial inclusion initiatives.

You demonstrate a keen personal interest in technology and stay current on trends, tools, and their impact on the financial services industry. You are passionate about driving IT effectiveness and enabling clients to achieve their business objectives.

You must become familiar with, promote, and abide by our Core Values as defined in the AlixPartners Code of Conduct, and foster an inclusive environment with people at all levels of the organisation.

The firm offers market-leading benefits with flexible options, including health benefits that support physical and emotional well-being, time-off policies that help people recharge, and financial and retirement benefits that offer income protection and support long-term planning. Benefit types and levels differ by location.

AlixPartners is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, or disability.
