Role Summary
Avanade India’s Applications & Engineering practice is looking for an Application Technical Lead to own the technical delivery of .NET applications for our clients. This is a hands-on role — the person in it designs the solution, writes code alongside the team, reviews what others produce, and is accountable for what ships.
You will lead a team of four to five engineers through build and release, own the engineering standards and the Azure DevOps pipelines that enforce them, and lead modernisation work from .NET Framework to modern .NET. We also expect you to be fluent with LLM-based development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code — using them to raise the team’s productivity and code quality, and setting sensible rules for how they are used on client work.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end technical delivery of .NET applications — technical design, build, code quality, testing, release and production readiness.
- Lead a team of four to five engineers: allocating work, reviewing code and designs, unblocking the team and holding the quality of what is delivered.
- Design and develop applications hands-on in C# and .NET — ASP.NET Core, Web API, microservices and service integrations.
- Lead migration and modernisation of legacy .NET Framework applications to .NET Core / modern .NET — assessment, dependency and package analysis, migration approach, incremental cutover and regression testing.
- Apply LLM-based development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or equivalent) across the lifecycle — code generation, refactoring, test generation, legacy code comprehension and documentation — and set the team’s standards for their safe and effective use on client code.
- Build and run CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps — multi-stage YAML, build and release gates, approvals, artifact and environment management, automated testing and continuous delivery to higher environments.
- Define and enforce engineering standards: branching strategy, pull request and code review discipline, unit and integration test coverage, static analysis and security scanning.
- Design and optimise data access and database interaction — SQL Server or Azure SQL, Entity Framework Core, query tuning and caching.
- Work with cloud and platform teams on deployment architecture — Azure App Service, Functions, containers and AKS, Key Vault, configuration and secrets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance, reliability and production issues, and drive root-cause fixes rather than workarounds.
- Run technical design discussions with architects, business analysts and client technical stakeholders, and explain and defend design decisions.
- Plan and estimate work with the project manager — breakdown, sizing, sprint planning and realistic commitments — and report technical progress and risk.
- Mentor and uplift engineers on .NET, engineering practice and AI-assisted development, and support hiring and technical interviews.
- Contribute reusable components, templates, pipeline accelerators and reference implementations to the practice IP library.
- Support presales where needed — technical approach, effort estimation and client technical discussions.
.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8–10 years of overall experience in application development, with a substantial recent focus on Microsoft .NET.
- Deep hands-on expertise in C#, .NET Framework and .NET Core / modern .NET — ASP.NET Core, Web API, dependency injection, asynchronous programming and design patterns.
- Proven experience migrating .NET Framework applications to .NET Core / modern .NET, including assessment, dependency resolution, refactoring and phased cutover.
- Hands-on experience using LLM-based coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code in real project delivery, with judgement about where they help, how to review their output and how to use them safely on client code.
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of four to five engineers on delivery — work allocation, code review, mentoring and accountability for quality.
- Strong Azure DevOps capability: multi-stage YAML pipelines, build and release pipelines, environments, approvals, artifact management and continuous delivery; equivalent GitHub Actions experience is acceptable alongside Azure DevOps.
- Solid Git discipline — branching strategy, pull requests and meaningful code review.
- Strong grounding in SQL Server or Azure SQL and Entity Framework Core, including performance tuning.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and integrating with external systems.
- Working knowledge of Azure application services — App Service, Functions, Key Vault, storage and application monitoring.
- Experience with automated testing — unit, integration and the role of testing in the pipeline.
- Strong communication skills, including running technical discussions with client stakeholders and translating technical risk into plain language.
- Based in Bengaluru or Delhi NCR, or willing to relocate.
Preferred / Good to Have
- Front-end development experience with React or Angular, and the ability to guide full-stack delivery.
- Experience with containers and Kubernetes (Docker, AKS), and with microservices architecture at scale.
- Microsoft certifications: Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204), DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).
- Experience building AI features into applications — Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, agents or RAG patterns.
- Exposure to the Microsoft Power Platform or Dynamics 365 alongside custom .NET development.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Bicep or Terraform) for application environments.
- Experience with legacy modernisation beyond .NET — monolith decomposition, re-platforming or re-architecting older systems.
- Experience in a consulting, global delivery or SI environment with distributed teams.
- Prior contribution to accelerators, reusable frameworks or practice-building initiatives
