Description
The City of Owensboro is seeking an experienced and motivated GIS Analyst/Programmer to support citywide GIS operations. This position performs technical GIS functions, including data management, spatial analysis, programming, and application development to ensure efficient and accurate GIS services using tools such as Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related technologies.Key responsibilities include analyzing spatial and non-spatial data; designing, coding, testing, and deploying GIS applications across web, mobile, and desktop platforms; maintaining and optimizing databases; resolving technical issues; and providing user support and training. The GIS Analyst/Programmer supports the Information Technology Department, city staff, and the community by delivering reliable, innovative GIS solutions.Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, engineering, information technology, or a related field, and/or 5–10 years of experience in GIS processing, programming, or database management. A valid driver’s license is required, and experience with database design, programming, and imagery interpretation is desirable. Candidates should possess strong communication, analytical, and technical skills—including proficiency in Python, JavaScript, relational databases, and GIS software—as well as the ability to work collaboratively and deliver accurate, customer-focused results. Work is primarily office-based with periodic field visits.Annual pay begins at $77,535.00. Provided benefits include but are not limited to health insurance, group life insurance, wellness program, and CERS retirement administered by the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority . Paid time off includes vacation, sick time, and holidays (for eligible employees).
