Description
We are working closely with a local authority in North Yorkshire to assist with the appointment of an Accountant, on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £394.23- £499.00 per day
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Interim Accountant to provide high-quality financial management and technical accounting support for the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing treasury activities, overseeing balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting the production of statutory financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and maintain robust balance sheet controls, ensuring reconciliations are accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
- Deliver technical accounting services in accordance with CIPFA standards and relevant accounting regulations.
- Complete VAT returns, government financial submissions, and other regulatory reporting accurately and within required deadlines.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing accurate financial information and documentation.
- Administer and maintain the Xero finance system, ensuring data integrity and effective financial processes.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and organisational policies.
Qualifications:
- CCAB-qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent) or
- AAT-qualified Accounting Technician (or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience and continuing professional development (CPD).
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles, treasury management, VAT, and statutory reporting.
Essentials:
- Proven experience in financial accounting, balance sheet management, and statutory reporting.
- Experience managing treasury functions, including cashflow, banking, and investments.
- Demonstrable experience preparing VAT returns, government submissions, and regulatory reports.
- Experience managing reserves, grants, and income recognition processes.
