Position Summary:
Henkels & McCoy, Inc. seeks an experienced, strategic Technical Services Manager to lead the West Region's Technical Solutions Group. This leadership role is responsible for the operational, financial, and business performance of a multi-disciplinary technical services organization supporting electric utility, gas utility, communications, and infrastructure customers throughout the western United States.
The Technical Services Manager leads engineering, planning, design, estimating, surveying, feasibility studies, and consulting services while ensuring successful project execution, customer satisfaction, employee development, and profitable growth. The position serves as a key link between technical delivery, business development, and construction operations, helping position Henkels & McCoy for long-term success with both existing and prospective clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute short- and long-term business plans aligned with regional and corporate objectives.
- Direct and oversee engineering, planning, design, estimating, and technical consulting services across utility infrastructure projects.
- Manage multiple technical disciplines with emphasis on electric transmission and distribution systems.
- Provide senior-level technical guidance, project oversight, and risk management support.
- Support project teams through planning, execution, resource allocation, issue resolution, and stakeholder coordination.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with utility clients, municipalities, engineering firms, contractors, and business partners.
- Lead or support proposal development, bid responses, and opportunity capture efforts for large and complex projects.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within electric, gas, and communications utility markets.
- Serve as a senior client contact and trusted advisor to support customer satisfaction and account growth.
- Establish, monitor, and report key performance metrics for operational, financial, and project performance.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, forecasting, utilization targets, and profitability goals.
- Coordinate project reviews and ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual commitments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of utility industry experience in engineering, planning, design, technical services, estimating, or related disciplines.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing technical, engineering, planning, or design teams.
- Strong understanding of utility engineering, transmission and distribution systems, construction practices, project execution, and contract administration.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, resources, workforce planning, and operational performance.
- Proven success in customer relationship management and business development.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the region as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferably in California.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Construction management and field operations experience.
- Experience with electric investor-owned utilities and municipalities, particularly: SCE, SDG&E, LADWP, and PG&E.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary utility programs involving engineering, planning, design, and construction support services.
Salary Range: $120,000.00 to $180,000.00 (dependent upon level of experience & background)
