Purpose of the Role
AEGIS London currently has an opportunity within the Portfolio Solutions team for an Assistant Underwriter to help service, build and diversify the portfolio alongside the existing team. The role will involve underwriting delegated authority and treaty business, while acting as a key liaison for administrative activities including EPI management, bordereaux queries and related operational processes. This is an opportunity to play a broad role across both underwriting and portfolio management within a small and collaborative team with increasing responsibility and underwriting authority as experience develops.
Duties and Accountabilities
- To underwrite business on behalf of the Syndicate in accordance with personal underwriting authority, underwriting procedures and class underwriting guidelines, achieving the business mix, premium income and loss ratio targets set out in the business plan.
- Review and process submissions, renewals, endorsements and new business opportunities in an accurate and timely manner.
- Monitor the performance of delegated authority and reinsurance arrangements, including binding authorities, lineslips, consortia and quota share treaties.
- Act as a key liaison with internal teams including Exposure Management, Credit Control, Actuarial, Wordings, Compliance, Delegated Authority, Operations, Claims, Data Science, and Risk Management.
- Support premium and exposure monitoring, bordereaux and delegated data queries, credit control and related operational processes.
- Support portfolio monitoring, management information, business planning, presentations and ad hoc analysis.
- Provide a high standard of service to brokers and clients. The role will be client facing and will involve travel where appropriate in the normal course of the business.
- To complete other ad hoc duties as directed.
- To work as part of a collaborative team within AEGIS London and ensure good working relationships are maintained with all stakeholders and colleagues.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience within the Lloyd’s and/or London Market.
- Experience of delegated authority business, including binding authorities, lineslips or consortium arrangements, would be advantageous.
- Exposure to reinsurance, delegated authority or portfolio-based underwriting products would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of underwriting support functions, including Exposure Management, Credit Control, Delegated Authority, bordereaux management and underwriting operations, would be advantageous.
- Strong organisation, administration and planning skills with good attention to detail.
- Good communication skills with the ability to present well to both internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrable analytical skills with the ability to interpret underwriting, exposure and financial performance data.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in delegated authority and reinsurance markets.
- A proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong relationship-building skills and a desire to develop market-facing responsibilities.
- ACII qualification would be advantageous, or progress towards it.
- Good IT skills including MS Office applications with a particular focus on Excel and good ability to learn new systems.
- The ability to work as part of a team and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
