About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to the Faculty’s research agenda through high-quality research and scholarly activities. The role will support the delivery of impactful research outcomes while developing research expertise and independence under the guidance of senior academic staff.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct research independently and collaboratively as part of a research team, contributing to discipline knowledge through research outputs, presentations and engagement with academic and professional networks. The role provides opportunities to develop research capability, contribute to research initiatives, support students within the discipline and participate in Faculty and School activities that advance the University’s strategic priorities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• conduct research, scholarly or professional activities independently or as part of a research team, contributing to knowledge development within the discipline

• develop and refine independent research skills under the guidance of senior academic staff, with increasing autonomy over research activities

• maintain high standards of quality and excellence across research activities and outputs

• provide informal mentoring and advice to students within the discipline where appropriate

• undertake administrative responsibilities and contribute to Faculty and School meetings and activities

• contribute to a positive workplace culture that values collaboration, diversity of thought, excellence and achieving outcomes

• engage professionally and respectfully with students, staff and members of the University community

• maintain an understanding of University strategic priorities and contribute to Faculty and School objectives

• contribute to the strategic direction of the Faculty, School or Portfolio through research activities and initiatives

• undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

• a Doctorate or PhD in a relevant field and demonstrated experience in vision science research

• demonstrated understanding of the subject matter within the relevant discipline

• experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity

• a developing research profile within the discipline or area of expertise

• a developing network of academic, industry and professional partners and stakeholders

• strong research capability with demonstrated ability to contribute to research outcomes

• effective communication skills, including the ability to present research findings clearly to academic and professional audiences

• strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

• proficiency in computer applications and research-related systems.

Work Rights: you must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
