Process Engineer

Location: Toledo, OH

Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a Process Engineer at our Toledo, OH HBI location.  The Process Engineer role provides technical operations oversight for assigned areas within the plant.  The Process Engineer will develop, monitor, and optimize manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, improve quality and optimize productivity in the direct reduced iron processing operation. 

Summary of Responsibilities: 

• Provide process engineering support to ensure safe, reliable, and optimized plant operations.
• Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFD's), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mass and heat balances, plant design and functional descriptions.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and contract management practices.
• Support operations by prioritizing maintenance activities, recommending process improvements, troubleshooting process issues, and optimizing operating conditions and plant performance.
• Monitor and improve feedstock processing, catalyst performance, unit benchmarking and reporting, and process best practices.
• Lead or participate in Management of Change (MOC) activities, Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Root Cause Analysis (RCAs), and incident investigations.
• Conduct plant trials and evaluate new reagents or technologies to reduce cost.
• Work with suppliers, contractors, operations, maintenance, and control room personnel to execute process improvement strategies.
• Responsible for optimization and troubleshooting of issues regarding process technologies within the plant, escalating larger issues to the Sr. Process Engineer for assistance as needed.
• Assists in writing and checking operating procedure reviews.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with applicable experience.
• 3+ years engineering experience in petrochemical, metals, mineral processing, or similar industrial operations.
• At least one year experience in process controls, statistics, and project management.
• Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional operations teams, equipment troubleshooting, budgeting and capital project justification, technical report writing and communication.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical skills; ability to make decisions and recommendations based on data analysis required.
• Occasionally lifting up to 25lbs.
• Mobility required.  Must be able to handle stairs and long periods of work on your feet.
• Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt and vibrations, extreme climate changes / changes in weather.
• Ability to work at heights.
• Willing to periodically work off shifts as plant conditions require.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct experience working in an OSHA PSM-covered facility would be a plus.
• DRI/HBI experience preferred.
